The Republican National Committee (RNC) has taken legal action against Nevada Secretary of State Cisco Aguliar, filing a lawsuit on Friday.

The lawsuit alleges that Nevada's voter registration rolls are unreasonably high, in violation of the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA), which mandates the maintenance of accurate and up-to-date voter registration records.

Five of Nevada's 17 counties have inflated voter rolls, the RNC's analysis highlights, suggesting a breach of the NVRA.

RNC Co-Chair Michael Whatley emphasized the importance of clean voter rolls for election integrity, particularly in a state like Nevada with universal mail voting and no voter ID requirement.

The lawsuit, as outlined by The Daily Caller, points out that at least three Nevada counties have more registered voters than adult citizens over the age of 18, a discrepancy deemed “impossibly high” by the RNC.

Additionally, two counties purportedly exhibit voter registration rates exceeding 90% of adult citizens, surpassing national and state-level averages.

Republican officials highlight what they perceive as abnormally high voter registration rates in Clark County and Carson City, citing data from the most recent voter registration counts and the U.S. Census Bureau's 2022 American Community Survey.

The lawsuit also alleges that voter counts in Douglas, Lyon, and Storey counties exceed 100%, attributing the discrepancies to inadequate list maintenance.

This legal action mirrors a similar lawsuit filed by the RNC against Michigan, emphasizing concerns about voter roll inconsistencies potentially facilitating voter fraud.

In response to the lawsuit, a Nevada deputy attorney general affirmed the state's compliance with federal requirements for voter registration maintenance.

The attorney general's office underscored the strict protocols for removing ineligible voters, which could contribute to higher registration rates than the actual eligible voter pool. The office additionally criticized the comparison of population estimates from 2022 to recent voter registration data, labeling it as flawed due to the imprecise nature of Census Bureau estimates.

As of now, a hearing date for the lawsuit has not been scheduled. The RNC's lawsuit seeks a declaratory judgment and injunction against the state of Nevada.
