On Monday, co-hosts of “The View” complained about NBC News’ decision to hire former Republican National Committee chairwoman Ronna McDaniel.

NBC News hired McDaniel to be an on-air contributor nearly one month after she resigned as the RNC chairwoman near the end of February.

Co-host Ana Navarro was particularly outraged over McDaniel’s hiring, after she said violent Jan. 6 prisoners should not be freed during her Sunday debut on “Meet the Press,” accusing her of being a “shapeshifter.”

“Look, I think she’s a shapeshifter, and she says and does what’s convenient for her to say and do what’s convenient,” Navarro said. “She’s from Michigan, where the name Romney, which is her name, she used to use. In Michigan, she was a Romney, and when she became the RNC chair and it was under Trump who did not like Romney, she took out the name Romney. When it was convenient for her to amplify the things that Donald Trump was saying, to amplify the conspiracy theories, to gaslight journalists, to malign journalists, she did that. Now that she’s on NBC, she has changed her tune.”

Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin said McDaniel “failed to mention” that Republicans who argued against Trump’s election fraud claims had “their lives torn apart.”

“I feel very strongly, obviously, that there needs to be Republican representation in media. We represent 50% of the country. But there are credible Republicans who never dabbled in this dangerous lie that Joe Biden didn’t legitimately win the election who would be far better served for NBC, could offer that same expertise with more credibility. I think if people like Chris Christie, Chris Krebs, Sarah Matthew, Mick Mulvaney, Will Hurd.”

Co-host Sara Haines chimed in, arguing that “election deniers” shouldn’t be given roles at “major network news,” and co-host Sunny Hostin argued that McDaniel was attempting to “actively [suppress]” the black vote by allegedly being involved in pressuring Michigan County officials to not certify Detroit-area votes in 2020.

She further accused NBC News of awarding McDaniel for pushing false election claims and urged the network to “reconsider” the decision to hire her.

“So she is still pushing the same exact narrative. She is being awarded for basically trying to take away votes of Americans, and I think it’s a despicable decision,” Hostin said.

“The View’s” hosts were hardly the first liberal media figureheads to complain about McDaniel’s hiring. NBC’s Chuck Todd told “Meet the Press” host Kristen Welker on Sunday that the network should apologize for having her interview McDaniel, arguing she has shifted her views so many times that it was impossible to know if she was sincere.

“She is now a paid contributor by NBC news,” Todd told Welker. “I have no idea whether any answer she gave to you was because she didn’t want to mess up her contract. She wants us to believe that she was speaking for the RNC when the RNC was paying for it. So, she has credibility issues that she still has to deal with. Is she speaking for herself, or is she speaking on behalf of who’s paying her? Once at the RNC, she did say that, ‘Hey, I’m speaking for the party.’ I get that. That’s part of the job. So, what about here?”

MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski called on NBC to “reconsider its decision” and said McDaniel will never be invited as a guest on “Morning Joe.”
