On Saturday, protestors interrupted an Easter Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York City, according to a report from the New York Post

Protestors, who were identified as members of climate protest and Palestinian solidarity group Extinction Rebellion, entered the cathedral, and, while the priest was conducting the second reading of the Easter Vigil, began chanting, “free free Palestine.” . During the second reading of the Easter Vigil the protestors could be heard chanting, “Free, free Palestine.”

Earlier on Saturday, Times Square was filled with thousands of protestors demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, who later entered the Easter Vigil and walked to the front of the service, holding up a banner reading “SILENCE = DEATH” with the Extinction Rebellion symbol and an olive tree.

Video of the incident shows protestors revealing the banner before numerous people rushed over, pulling away the flag and removing them from the front of the church. They were then promptly removed from the service entirely. Members of the congregation and general attendees led by Cardinal Timothy Dolan were largely unfazed by the interruption.

This is the latest incident of Pro-Palestine protestors disrupting events calling for a ceasefire. On Thursday, protestors disrupted President Joe Biden’s New York fundraiser, with one protestor disrupting a presidential panel discussion and began yelling at the president.

“Shame on you Joe Biden! Shame on you! You are forcing genocide in Palestine and no amount of full concern -,” the protestor shouted.

One protestor outside of Thursday’s event was arrested by the NYPD.
