Prayers for former President Donald Trump came rushing in from Republican officials after he appeared to be shot at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The sound of shots rang out as Trump grabbed around his neck area and he quickly dropped to the ground as he was instantly swarmed by Secret Service agents. After he got up, he raised his fist and signaled to the crowd to “fight” as the Secret Service rushed him off stage.

The Secret Service put out a statement saying that an “incident” had occurred at the rally but did not give any details about a shooter.

“An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe. This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available,” the Secret Service said in a statement.

As the news broke, Republican senators and governors offered their prayers for the former president who left the stage with a bloodied face.

“Kelly and I are praying for President Trump and all the attendees of the campaign rally today in Pennsylvania, and we send our gratitude to the law enforcement who responded at the scene,” House Speaker Mike Johnson said. “I have been briefed by law enforcement and am continuing to monitor the developments. This horrific act of political violence at a peaceful campaign rally has no place in this country and should be unanimously and forcefully condemned.”

“Join me in praying for President Trump and the law enforcement personnel who are tending to him and citizens at the scene,” Tennessee GOP Senator Marsha Blackburn said.

“[Casey] and I are praying for Donald Trump and his family,” Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis said.

“Everyone join me in praying for our President Trump and everyone at that rally. I hope everyone is ok,” Ohio Senator J.D. Vance said.

“Pray for President Trump. And for justice,” Missouri GOP Senator Josh Hawley posted to X.

“Maria & I ask Tennesseans to join us in praying for President Trump & his family, & all who were in attendance at today’s rally in Pennsylvania,” said Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee.

“America is praying for President Trump. We will overcome and DEFEAT EVIL! NEVER SURRENDER!” Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz posted on X.

“We all know President Trump is stronger than his enemies. Today he showed it,” North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum said.

“God protected President Trump,” Florida Senator Marco Rubio said.

Democrats also urged the former president well, saying that they did not support political violence.

“We must never accept political violence. The former president, his family, and all attendees at the rally in Butler tonight are in my thoughts, and I am hoping for their health and safety,” said Pennsylvania Democrat Senator Bob Casey.

“My thoughts and prayers are with former President Trump. I am thankful for the decisive law enforcement response. America is a democracy. Political violence of any kind is never acceptable,” said House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

“I am horrified by what happened at the Trump rally in Pennsylvania and relieved that former President Trump is safe. Political violence has no place in our country,” said Senator Majority Leader Chuck Schumer.
