U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX) told Fox News that his nephew was wounded in the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump that has left at least one bystander dead.
“So, my nephew was at the event tonight, and they were in the friends and family pen. And they heard the shots, and everybody dropped to the ground, and I don’t know if you guys have the picture or not, but he was grazed in the neck, a bullet crossed his neck, cut his neck, and he was bleeding,” Jackson told Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Jackson’s nephew was located just to the president’s right in the friends and family section.
“And they heard shots coming in. Apparently, there was someone also, there were four or five rows behind them, that was critically injured. Whenever he was shot, you know, they realized that a bullet had grazed his neck. My sister-in-law had encouraged him to go to the first aid tent, to the triage tent,” the congressman explained.
“They went to the triage tent. When they got to the triage tent, while they were there, there was another member of the crowd, unfortunately, that had a devastating wound, had a critical wound to the head that was dead.”
Law enforcement has confirmed that at least one member of the crowd was killed in the attack. An attending physician told reporters that he attempted to provide aid to a man who was shot in the head, though he revealed that there was “brain matter” scattered in the bleachers.
The Secret Service has confirmed that the gunman was firing from a rooftop overlooking the event venue.
“During Former President Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on the evening of July 13 at approximately 6:15 p.m., a suspected shooter fired multiple shots toward the stage from an elevated position outside of the rally venue. U.S. Secret Service personnel neutralized the shooter, who is now deceased,” the agency announced in a press release.
“U.S. Secret Service quickly responded with protective measures and Former President Trump is safe. One spectator was killed, and two spectators were critically injured. This incident is currently under investigation. and the Secret Service has notified the FBI.”
Trump confirmed that his ear was struck by a bullet in a Truth Social post. He also offered condolences to the deceased victim’s family.
“I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured,” he wrote.
“It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening.”
“GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
The former president was released from a Pittsburgh area hospital shortly after 9 p.m. on Saturday.
President Biden addressed the nation roughly an hour after the shooting and stated that he wanted to get in touch with the former president.
“The idea that there’s political violence or violence in America like this is just unheard of. It’s just not appropriate. Everybody, everybody must condemn it. Everybody. I’ll keep you informed. And if I am able to speak to Donald, I’ll let you know that as well,” the president told reporters at an impromptu press conference in Rehoboth Beach.
The names of victims, nor the shooter, have been released as of this report.
