While speaking with MSNBC, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) attempted to deflect from a bombshell video in which she can be seen taking responsibility for security failures on January 6, 2021.

The footage, which was released by the Committee on House Administration’s Subcommittee on Oversight for Chairman Barry Loudermilk (R-GA), featured Pelosi in a candid discussion with aids during the protests. Pelosi acknowledged her role in the lack of preparation that left police shorthanded despite expectations of a massive crowd and intelligence suggesting disruptions were possible. “We have responsibility, Terry. We did not have any accountability for what was going on there, and we should have,” Pelosi is heard saying in the video.

While speaking with MSNBC's Nicolle Wallace, Pelosi attempted to downplay the bombshell video by pushing blame on former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party. “Why do you think this is stirred up and a brouhaha on the right and in some corners of the media today?” Wallace asked.

“Well because of the fact is that the president of the United States the former president and his Toadies do not want to face the facts. They're trying to do revisionist history on January 6th, but we cannot let us be dragged into their, again, false impression of what happened that day,” Pelosi said. “They know what happened that day. They know how serious it is and was and continues to have an impact on our country. And yet they want to call the people who were in there hostages.”

Pelosi has repeatedly advanced the thoroughly debunked lie that Capitol Police officers were murdered by the crowd that day. The former House speaker even attributed the death of Capitol Police Officer Billy Evans — who was murdered by a Nation of Islam member in 2021 — to the January 6 protesters.

“And I said in my remarks, Lincoln built the dome on the Capitol. He insisted that it be built during the Civil War so that it could show the resilience of America. And to see these people coming through the Capitol with their foul deeds and foul actions, waving Confederate flags and Nazi flags under Lincoln's dome, was so shameful,” Pelosi told Wallace. “And yet this president who incited, this former president who incited this insurrection would not send the National Guard for hours. People were harmed, people were killed, died one way or another, and what does he do but try to deny that any of it happened.”

Despite Pelosi's claims, National Guard whistleblowers have testified that Trump authorized their deployment on January 6, though they were ultimately told to “stand down.”

The former House speaker also failed to mention that Capitol Police officers fired tear gas and flashbangs into what had been a peaceful crowd. Wind direction then caused the tear gas to blow back on their own officers, causing police lines to collapse.
