Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker — a fervent supporter of President Biden — was caught on a hot mic discussing his dissatisfaction with the presidential race on Wednesday.

“I mean, we’re just going to keep fighting. I don’t know what to say. You know, got to do what we have to do,” Pritzker said to a man at a crime summit in Chicago. “I don’t like where we are,” he added.

A spokesperson for the governor confirmed that he was discussing the state of the presidential race, as well as an 81-year-old President Biden’s status as the Democratic nominee, in the viral clip.

Pritzker, 59, has been floated as a potential replacement for Biden if the party attempts to ditch him during next month’s convention. The governor has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to supporting the president’s candidacy in the days following his disastrous debate performance.

“Joe Biden is our nominee. I’m for Joe Biden. I’ve been campaigning for Joe Biden,” Pritzker told reporters at an event on Monday.

The governor refused to definitively rule out a run of his own when asked about a statement from Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who stated that she has no interest in seeking the nomination. “What I can tell you is I’m not engaging in hypotheticals, you can see I’m all in for Joe Biden,” he said. “Joe Biden’s going to be the nominee for the Democratic Party.”

The Biden Campaign has resisted calls to step down even as several members of his own party have aligned against the president’s continued candidacy. “He’s going to focus on continuing to work on behalf of the American people, continuing to build on an unprecedented record that he’s been able to get done with many of these congressional members that he’s proud to have worked with. But that’s his focus right now,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said earlier this week.

President Biden’s staffers are hoping to sure up support for President Biden with a press conference at the NATO summit in Washington D.C. on Thursday evening. While the president is running more than a half hour late as of this report, he already started off the day on the wrong foot by introducing Ukrainian President Zelensky as “President Putin.”

If the Democrats do opt to ditch Biden, they will be left with only one option if they wish to keep the Biden Campaign’s war chest. That choice would have to be Vice President Harris, though polling has largely found her behind in a head-to-head race with former President Donald Trump.
