President Biden referred to his chief political rival as “Vice President Trump” in his answer to the first question in Thursday night’s highly anticipated press conference at the NATO Summit in Washington D.C. on Thursday.
After arriving an hour late, President Biden delivered a brief campaign speech in which he falsely claimed that former President Trump praised Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and wants to abandon NATO. He then declared that he had been given a list of reporters to call on before answering questions.
“With that, I’ll take your questions,” Biden said while retrieving a piece of paper from the podium. “I’ve been given a list of people to call on here.”

For his first question, Biden was asked whether he had confidence in Vice President Kamala Harris and her ability to lead if necessary. “I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president if I think she’s not qualified to be president,” the president answered.
The blunder came less than two hours after Biden shocked world leaders by introducing Ukrainian President Zelensky as “President Putin.”
Former President Trump immediately responded to his rival’s gaffe in a Truth Social Post.
“Crooked Joe begins his “Big Boy” Press Conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.’ Great job, Joe!” he wrote.
Elsewhere in the press conference, a defiant President Biden rejected calls that he should drop out of the race and snapped at multiple reporters.
“I wanted to ask you about your mixed-up Presidents Zelensky and Putin earlier today. And you now have sort of your key allies including the British Prime Minister, the President of France, the German Chancellor having to step in and make excuses for you on that,” one reporter began, drawing a disappointing reaction from President Biden.
“Officials here are saying off the record that your decline has become noticeable,” the reporter continued before asking if the president’s position was damaging the United States’ standing in the world.
“Did you see any damage to our standing in my leading this conference? Have you seen a more successful conference? What do you think?” Biden snapped while glaring at the reporter.
“And the move to Putin, please. I was talking about Putin and I said, and now, at the very end, I said, here, I mean Putin, I said, no, I’m sorry, Zelensky.”
