Secretary of State Anthony Blinken appeared to react to President Biden’s monumental gaffe at the start of his highly anticipated NATO press conference on Thursday evening.
After delivering a short campaign speech, Biden retrieved a piece of paper and declared that he had been given a pre-approved list of reporters to call on by his aides. In response to the first question — which concerned Vice President Kamala Harris and her ability to lead — Biden referred to his running-mate as “Vice President Trump.”
The moment immediately went viral on social media, as Democrats and Biden allies had hoped that a solid performance from the president would calm fears over his capabilities after a disastrous debate. It also caught the attention of former President Trump, who responded in a Truth Social post.

“Crooked Joe begins his ‘Big Boy’ Press Conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.’ Great job, Joe!” he wrote.
The remark also drew a visceral reaction from Anthony Blinken, immediately appeared to be overcome with a mixture of disgust and embarrassment. National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan also appeared to be concerned, as he could be seen leaning forward and placing his hand on his chin after the gaffe, which went uncorrected by the president.

Blinken has been caught giving negative reactions to the president’s statements in the past.
Back in November, President Biden was asked whether he would refer to Chinese President XI Jinping as a “dictator.”
“Well, look, he is,” Biden answered. “I mean, he’s a dictator in the sense that he is the guy who runs the country.” The response drew a visible cringe from the secretary of state, who proceeded to squirm in his seat as Biden delivered an off-script remark.

CNN recently reported that cabinet secretaries have been asked to provide pre-approved questions before meeting with their boss.
“The entire display is kind of an act,” one inside source told the outlet. “They would come and say, ‘Hey, the president is going to call on you about 25 minutes in, and ask this question. What are the bullet points you’ll respond with?”
