At this time, the shooting is still under investigation, and the suspects have not been apprehended.
NBC Washington stated:
Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith told News4 the shooting is under active investigation, and developments are happening quickly.
“It’s such a tragic loss of a young man who’s in our city conducting, being a part of something that I think is profound for most young people. Interning at a U.S. House of Representatives office is a big deal,” she said. “We want people to put the guns down. Innocent bystander, a young lady who was also shot in addition to Eric, unacceptable in all ways, shape, forms of fashion.”
The vehicle involved in the shooting has been recovered police are searching for the suspects.
Tarpinian-Jachym had a very promising life ahead of him.
Along with interning for Rep. Estes since last month, he was a star student at his university in Massachusetts.
ABC News reported:
Tarpinian-Jachym, who had been serving as an intern for Rep. Ron Estes (R-Kan.) since June, was a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where he was majoring in finance with a minor in political science.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the shooting occurred around 10:28 p.m. Monday when multiple suspects emerged from a vehicle and opened fire on a group of people. Three victims were struck: Tarpinian-Jachym, an adult female, and a 16-year-old male.
While the other two victims were conscious when police arrived, Tarpinian-Jachym was found unconscious. All three were transported to local hospitals, where Tarpinian-Jachym succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
Rep. Estes released a statement after learning of his intern’s murder.
From his website:
“I will remember his kind heart and how he always greeted anyone who entered our office with a cheerful smile,” said Rep. Estes. “We are grateful to Eric for his service to Kansas’ 4th District and the country. Please join Susan and me in praying for his family and respecting their privacy during this heartbreaking time.”
What a tragedy.
Please pray for this young man’s family in their time of unimaginable loss and for the murderers to be brought to justice.
