Elon Musk's X Corp made headlines on Sunday with its announcement to cover the legal expenses of a Canadian doctor embroiled in a legal battle against the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario for her public criticism of the Covid mandates enforced by the Trudeau government.
X pledged to cover the remaining $300,000 judgment faced by Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill, stating their commitment to defending her freedom of speech.
The company emphasized the importance of free speech as a cornerstone of democracy and a vital defense against all forms of totalitarianism.
“X is proud to help defend Dr. Kulvinder Kaur Gill against the government-supported efforts to cancel her speech,” X lamented in a post Sunday. “@dockaurG is a practicing physician in Canada, specializing in immunology and pediatrics. Because she spoke out publicly on Twitter (now X) in opposition to the Canadian and Ontario governments’ COVID lockdown efforts and vaccination mandates, she was harassed by the legacy media, censored by prior Twitter management, and subjected to investigations and disciplinary proceedings by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario that resulted in 'cautions' being placed on her permanent public record.”
“The legal battles that ensued cost Dr. Gill her life savings, and she now owes $300,000 in a court judgment due Monday. When Elon Musk learned earlier this week about her crowdfunding campaign to pay the judgment … he pledged to help,” the statement continued.

Dr. Gill, a physician based in Brampton, Ontario, turned to GiveSendGo.com to raise funds after being slapped with a $300,000 legal bill. Her supporters, including fellow doctors and nurses, have rallied behind her cause, raising over $195,000 to date.
In 2020, Dr. Gill and co-plaintiff Dr. Ashvinder Kaur Lamba filed a lawsuit against several defendants, including journalists and physicians, seeking damages of around $12 million for defamation, conspiracy, and negligence. The lawsuit stemmed from allegations of defamation against Dr. Gill for her unconventional views on the Covid-19 pandemic, including skepticism about the necessity of vaccines and advocating for a return to normalcy during lockdowns.
After learning about Dr. Gill's crowdfunding campaign, Elon Musk personally intervened, offering to cover the remaining expenses of her legal battle.
Elon Musk, who pledged to finance legal battles for individuals facing persecution from their employers due to Twitter posts prior to his acquisition of the platform, reiterated his commitment by quoting his company's post on X, stating, “In support of your right to speak.”
Responding to the news, Dr. Gill expressed her gratitude to X for their support, confirming Musk's direct outreach regarding his financial pledge. She took to social media, thanking Musk and invoking a Sikh blessing in appreciation of his assistance.
Dr. Gill conveyed her appreciation to Musk, stating, “#TeamHumanity.”
