A group of lawmakers aims to tackle concerns among American Jews about the rise of antisemitism, and internet commentators are sounding the alarm over the “hate speech bill” that will inevitably “counter online speech.”

Popular YouTuber An0maly has been at the forefront of calling foul on the bill. Dubbing it “hate speech policing under the guise of antisemitism” in a recent video.

He also criticized the U.S. Government for redefining speech and what hate speech is. Warning that if they try to police hate speech while pushing anti-Semitism laws “they're going to use it.”

An0maly also detailed the slippery slope that will occur regarding its impact on the first amendment.

NBC News reports that on Wednesday the “bipartisan” group introducing the Countering Antisemitism Act aims to combat discrimination by establishing a dedicated position within the White House.

This individual will reportedly advise the president and spearhead the implementation of a coordinated strategy to counter the increasing threat of antisemitism, per legislation shared exclusively with the outlet.

They would also play a crucial role in implementing the comprehensive plan, which delineated more than 100 actions federal agencies pledged to undertake following its release by the White House last May.

This coordinator would serve as the president's primary advisor on combating domestic antisemitism and would lead a newly established task force tasked with coordinating the plan's execution across various agencies.

The legislation also mandates that federal agencies submit a report to Congress outlining their progress in implementing the strategy. This provision empowers oversight authorities to identify and propose improved methods to combat the proliferation of antisemitism, particularly in online spaces.

“Antisemitism has been dramatically rising in the United States in the last several years and skyrocketed in the months since the horrific October 7 terror attack on Israel,” Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev) said.

“My bipartisan legislation would establish a National Coordinator to Counter Anti Semitism for the first time ever, and take other much-needed steps across the federal government to fight anti-Jewish hatred, bigotry, and violence in the United States,” she added.

NBC says Sen. James Lankford (R-Okla), and Reps. Kathy Manning (D-NC); Chris Smith (R-NJ); Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA); and Randy Weber (R-Tex)—all co-chairs of the Task Force for Combating Antisemitism in their respective chambers—also endorse the legislation.

This notably comes six months after Hamas carried out a deadly, unexpected attack on Israel on October 7, followed by Israel's invasion of Gaza.

Despite An0maly's warnings, the bill sparked enormous praise and support on X following the news.

“Today, I’m introducing the bipartisan, bicameral Countering Antisemitism Act – comprehensive legislation to strengthen federal efforts to combat antisemitism & protect the Jewish community. My bill will codify parts of @POTUS's Natl. Strategy to Counter Antisemitism,” wrote Congresswoman Kathy Manning.

Senator James Lanford said, “No one should live in fear because of their faith and heritage. @SenJackyRosen & I are introducing the Countering Antisemitism Act to affirm the right for our Jewish friends and neighbors to live their faith freely like all Americans.”

The American Jewish Committee wrote, “Surging antisemitism in the U.S. poses an urgent threat to Jews and all Americans. We have a great resource at our disposal to combat it.”

“Urge Congress to take action and implement the U.S. National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism by passing the Countering Antisemitism Act,” it added.
