Donald Trump has spoken out on social media on behalf of Rebecca Lavrenz, the famous “Praying Grandma” made famous by her peaceful role in the January 6th Capitol incident, who has been convicted of misdemeanor crimes for her quiet act of protest.

“Rebecca Lavrez, also known as the 'J6 Praying Grandma,' has been unfairly targeted by Crooked Joe Biden’s DOJ, and now faces up to 1 YEAR in prison for peacefully walking around the Capitol, and praying for our Failing Nation on January 6th!” former President Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

“Rebecca is a 72-year-old Grandmother and Small Business Owner from Colorado, and now she is one of Joe Biden’s J6 HOSTAGES!!! Crooked Joe Biden spends more time prosecuting Patriots like Rebecca, AND ME, than Violent Criminals, Thugs, Murderers, and ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS who are destroying our Country. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE UP AGAINST. MAGA2024!” Trump added.

Lavrenz was found guilty of participating in the breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. A federal jury convicted her on four misdemeanor counts related to her actions during the event aimed at disrupting the certification of the 2020 presidential election results. The charges include entering and remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building, disorderly conduct in the Capitol, and parading or picketing in the Capitol.

“I felt I was there on assignment from God,” Lavrenz said in a phone interview with The Gazette before the trial started.

Lavrenz, a 71-year-old great-grandmother and bed-and-breakfast owner near Colorado Springs, expressed no regrets about her participation in the storming of the Capitol. She was arrested on December 19, 2022, in Denver, after tipsters alerted the FBI to her involvement.

During an interview with federal authorities, Lavrenz admitted to spending about 10 minutes inside the Capitol, a fact corroborated by surveillance footage showing her among the rioters in a red scarf and white hat.

The verdict followed a trial that began on March 25 in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., with a 12-person jury deliberating for three days. Lavrenz's sentencing date has yet to be announced in federal court records.
