On Friday’s episode of “Real Time,” host Bill Maher expressed his belief that Biden’s NATO press conference presented a worst case scenario for the Democratic Party.
After multiple weeks of speculation and party infighting following the president’s disastrous debate performance, Biden’s team announced that he would be holding a rare press conference at the NATO summit in Washington D.C.
After arriving an hour late, Biden delivered a short political speech before answering a number of questions. The press conference was not without gaffes, as Biden referred to Vice President Harris as “Vice President Trump” while answering the first question. He also clashed with reporters over speculation surrounding his run and calls for him to step aside, as well as alleged concern from world leaders.

Despite the gaffes, the president did manage to speak for roughly a half hour. He gave a number of rambling answers on foreign policy, but was overall able to keep his form.
Maher described Biden’s performance as “exactly well enough,” adding that “Democrats have no idea what to do next.”
“Are we really going to be doing this? Are we really going to be doing this for the next few months or God knows how long? It’s like a horror movie you watch through your fingers, you know [something bad is] going to happen, you just don’t know when,” the HBO host said in his opening monologue. “And, of course, when, the other day, was right away. The very first question was about Kamala Harris, and he called her Vice President Trump. … So, my assessment of this is, what happened yesterday, the worst possible thing that could happen. He did exactly well enough so that the Democrats have no idea what to do next.”
Maher went back to the point when chatting with his panel later in the show. “I am going to reiterate what I said in the monologue, I think what happened last night was the worst of all possible worlds, because it was a split decision, right? Because there was not a knockout, and so, this schism in the Democratic Party will continue,” he predicted.
