Horror as woman's body is found inside a suburban home in Bellbird Park, Ipswich after police arrested a man over a 'disturbance'

A man is in custody after a woman's body was found inside a home that police believe 'was there for some time'.

Police were called to Beryl Court at Bellbird Park near Ipswich, west of Brisbane about 11.30am on Thursday following reports of a disturbance in the street.

A man was arrested at the scene. 

Further inquiries led police to the grim discovery of a woman's body inside a nearby home two hours later. 

'Early investigations indicate the body may have been inside the house for some time,' a Queensland Police spokesperson told Daily Mail.

'Investigations into the circumstances of the woman's death and identity are continuing.'

A crime scene has been declared as officers launched an investigation.

Forensic officers remained at the cordoned-off home on Friday.

A postmortem will be conducted to determine how the woman died.

The man arrested earlier on Thursday is now receiving medical treatment and 'will be assisting police with their inquiries'.

No charges have yet been laid as police wait for the postmortem results.
