Maine’s Largest Paper Whines That Recent Gubernatorial Debate Was A Mud Fest

Maine’s Largest Paper Whines That Recent Gubernatorial Debate Was A Mud Fest

When Democrat Troy Jackson and Republican Bobby Charles threw personal insults at each other during a recent debate, it was just too rough for the dainty Portland Press Herald.

The paper’s political columnist reports that the debate’s mudslinging tone failed to uphold Maine’s “national reputation for robust, elevated state politics.”

Steve Collins went even further, fawning over Angus King for having waged gubernatorial and U.S. Senate campaigns “that honored the state’s traditions and decency.”

That’s absolutely laughable.

Angus has a record of just the opposite. You can look it up, as Yogi Berra would say.

King is noted for having called gubernatorial opponent, Democrat Joe Brennan, 60, a mummy in a campaign ad when they ran against each other in 1994.

A mummy.

“Decency?”

That would be the same Angus King who pushed his way into the 2012 Senate race by elbowing out Democrat U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree, who was the heir apparent looking for a promotion to the upper chamber.

Angus made a deal behind Chellie’s back with members of her own party, promising that even though he were running as an independent he would vote with the Dems if they’d send him to Washington.

“Decency,” in the words of Steve Collins.

When Susan Collins was running for re-election to the Senate in 2020, King pretended he was neutral but used his wife put up an ad saying she was fully supporting Collins’ opponent, a Democrat.

“Decency – Angus King.”

In his column, Steve Collins never mentioned the “decency” of Democrat William Hathaway, who defeated Republican Margaret Chase Smith in the 1972 Senate race after going around suggesting she was too elderly at 74 for reelection.

“Decency.”

Or when Democrats started a whisper campaign about their own gubernatorial hopeful Mike Michaud’s sexual preferences before the 2014 primary – and blamed Republicans for outing him.

Though Michaud became the Democrat nominee, by then he was damaged goods, losing to the Republican Paul LePage.

A third candidate in that race “independent” Elliot Cutler, became the secret face of “decency” gone awry, as we since have learned. The later-convicted pedophile was engaged in pornography even then, as he now has admitted.

Maine Plategate Nightmare On Course For Annual Renewal Amid Prison Manufacturing Debate

Maine Plategate Nightmare On Course For Annual Renewal Amid Prison Manufacturing Debate

A year after Maine’s top license-plate boss emerged politically wounded from a scandal over faulty tags, a new chapter of Plategate is emerging.

Secretary of State Shenna Bellows is now recommending to the legislature that Maine stop making its own plates altogether.

After Bellows hired a Canadian company last year to help with a new plate issue, the result became a political nightmare.

The plates feature an image of Maine’s iconic pine tree but the poor tree was misaligned on many of the finished products.

Bellows got a lot of negative publicity over the misplaced tree – not helpful as she geared up for a run at the governorship.

Her office also presided over the botched new license plate rollout, leaving motorists confused, municipalities frustrated, and law enforcement struggling with inconsistent plate designs and shifting deadlines.

Exclusive: Janet Mills’ Attempt to Delay Trump’s Medicaid Fraud Investigation Rejected

Maine Gov. Janet Mills (D) learned the hard way Friday that President Donald J. Trump was serious about declaring War on Fraud during his Tuesday State of the Union Address.

Mills, unbeknownst to the rest of Maine, had quietly pleaded with the federal government for extra time to comply with a Feb. 6 demand from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services for detailed records related to Maine’s administration of the multi-billion-dollar welfare program known in Maine as MaineCare.

Affinity Homecare: DHHS Tries to Recoup Nearly $450k from HomeCare Business Co-Located with Business Operated by Rep. Yusuf Yusuf and Money Transfer Station

MaineCare auditors attempted to recoup nearly $450,000 from the Somali-run Affinity Homecare, co-located with Rep. Yusuf Yusuf’s (D-Portland) shady Care for Everyone and a foreign money transfer station.

According to records obtained by the Maine Wire via a Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) request, auditors with the Office of MaineCare Services could find no documentation showing that the services for which Affinity billed the taxpayer-funded welfare program actually took place.

Chronic Embattled Boston Globe Columnist Kevin Cullen Blaming His Latest Hollow Hack On “Leaks”

Chronic Embattled Boston Globe Columnist Kevin Cullen Blaming His Latest Hollow Hack On “Leaks”

The Boston Globe columnist who previously was caught lying about being at the scene of a downtown bombing is now trying to make up for lost time on his latest gaffe.

Gaffe is actually too generous a description of Kevin Cullen’s most recent work of literature.

Cullen, who wrote sympathetically last week about a white Irish guy who was being deported as an illegal immigrant, faced a firestorm once a Boston media watchdog learned about the suspect’s alleged criminal record.

Now Cullen is trying to paper over his malaprops with a new column blaming “leaks” for exposing the truth about the detainee.
