Picturesque cottage from Dawn French comedy The Vicar of Dibley is on the market for £375,000

For fans of The Vicar of Dibley it comes with no introduction – appearing in the opening credits of the hugely popular Nineties sitcom.

Now the charming cottage next door to vicar Geraldine Granger's house in the show is on the market – with bids starting at £375,000.

The Grade II-listed Church Cottage in the village of Turville, Buckinghamshire, will be auctioned on November 12.

Filming of Dawn French's character Geraldine's front door in the comedy mostly took place from the property, with wider shots of both of the cottages used to represent her home.

Church Cottage stands in the grounds of St Mary the Virgin Church, which was renamed St Barnabas Church in The Vicar of Dibley.

But despite its starry past potential buyers should be aware the property may be in need of some further investment.

The sales listing says: 'Offering cosy living, this charming 17th-century timber-frame cottage has had some updating carried out but would benefit from further renovation.'

On the positive side it adds that the cottage has 'a generous rear garden', has its own parking, and is 'close to local pubs and scenic walks'.

The Vicar of Dibley, which was created by Blackadder and Four Weddings And A Funeral writer Richard Curtis, aired on the BBC from 1994 to 2000 and has reappeared in various specials since, the most recent being broadcast in December 2020.

Turville has an impressive screen pedigree, having also featured in the 1998 film Goodnight Mister Tom and the TV show Midsomer Murders.
