I have been a vocal proponent of preserving both Big Bend National Park and the Big Bend state park as well, and I’m glad to see that advocacy paying off. We can protect our borders without destroying our landmarks.

In relation to Stout's campaign, Herrera spent "very little on fundraising expenses," according to documents reviewed by the Caller, directing much of his campaign funds toward defending the seat previously held by Republican Texas Rep. Tony Gonzales.
Herrera initially faced Gonzales in March, but Gonzales later dropped his reelection bid after acknowledging an affair with a staffer who later died after setting herself on fire. Gonzales withdrew after Herrera forced a runoff by finishing ahead of him in the primary. (RELATED: Rep. Gonzales To Resign After GOP Did Nothing For Months)
The Herrera campaign also made a $1.7 million reservation for broadcast and cable television advertising across the district, according to the documents.
Regarding his campaign's average donation, Herrera told the Caller, "Our average donation is $83, and I will forever be grateful to the small-dollar donors for supporting my campaign."
