Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán took a break from politics this week to crown an American fast-food chain as the maker of the planet’s finest burger.
Orbán posted a photo on his official Facebook page showing a Five Guys meal in Washington, D.C. His caption, translated from Hungarian, read: “World tour – food truck. The best hamburger: Five Guys, Washington.” Orbán noted that he did not actually eat the burger because he is currently fasting. Orbán traveled to the U.S. capital for the inaugural gathering of President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace. Hungarian Conservative reported the newly formed international body held its first meeting on Feb. 19. There are 35 countries that have joined the initiative, which Trump created as an alternative to existing international bodies for resolving armed conflicts, Remix News reported.
Orbán regularly shares photos of meals during his international travels, Hungarian news outlet HVG.hu reported. The publication also pointed out that Five Guys gained notoriety in political circles because former President Barack Obama reportedly visited the chain’s Washington location during his time in office.
The Washington trip comes amid a strengthening bond between Orbán and Trump. The U.S. president endorsed Orbán’s re-election campaign last week, calling him “a truly strong and powerful Leader” who “fights tirelessly for, and loves, his Great Country and People” in a Truth Social post.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Budapest days before the Board of Peace gathering and voiced support for Orbán’s re-election bid.
“President Donald Trump is deeply committed to your success, because your success is our success,” Rubio said at a press conference, according to Reuters.
Orbán faces voters in April parliamentary elections, the Hungarian Conservative reported.
