Polls have closed in the first few races of the battle for the Senate in the 2026 midterms.

Virginia's Senate contest marked the first concluded race in that chamber of the evening. The Associated Press called the race for Sen. Mark Warner,

D-Va., before any votes were counted.

As of press time, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Virginia have closed their polls. Only Georgia and South Carolina are expected to host competitive senate contests.

Rep. Andy Barr, R-Ky., is the heavy favorite to replace the retiring Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.

Tuesday evening will see voters decide control of the House and Senate. This is a developing story, check back for more updates as the Associated Press makes race calls.
