Congresswoman Julia Letlow, a President Donald Trump-backed candidate, prevailed over Democrat opponent Jamie Davis in Louisiana's Senate race.

On Tuesday, Letlow (R-La.) won the seat, receiving 50% of the vote. Davis (D-La.) trailed with 49% of the vote when the race was called with 100% of total votes counted.

Letlow is a Louisiana native, mother and educator. During her time in Congress she aimed to fight for Louisiana families, students, farmers and law enforcement — values which she focused her Senate campaign around, according to her campaign website.

President Trump previously expressed his "complete and total endorsement" of Letlow and her campaign, writing on Truth Social in May that she is both "highly respected" and "a wonderful person."

James "Jamie" Davis Jr. is a third-generation row-crop farmer, small business owner and local public servant from Waterproof in Tensas Parish, Louisiana.

Serving as the Democrat nominee for Senate in Louisiana, Davis centered his campaign on "finding solutions that prioritize working families over corporate and party ideology." According to his official platform, his economic agenda focuses on reversing corporate tax breaks, strengthening market competition, raising the federal minimum wage and investing in infrastructure that protects local agriculture and "create high-paying jobs across rural and urban communities."

In healthcare, he advocated for safeguarding Medicaid access, preserving Obamacare premium subsidies, leveraging Medicare to lower prescription drug costs and establishing a public Medicare option to protect rural hospitals and prevent medical bankruptcy.

Additionally, his platform emphasized stronger federal support for public education, competitive regional teacher pay and expanded vocational and technical career training.
