Aussie teen rescued from crane after social media stunt goes horribly wrong

A Melbourne teenager has been winched to safety after climbing a 30-metre crane to take photos for social media.

The 17-year-old became stranded on the crane at an Ivanhoe construction site on Thursday night after his phone battery died and his shoes became wet.

Passers-by spotted the boy in trouble and contacted  emergency services.

Unable to face the climb down, the teen scribbled a note and tossed it to emergency crews below, explaining he was too scared to descend due to a fear of slipping down the ladder.

The note also included his father's contact details.

A high-scale rescue was launched involving firefighters.

Rescuers brought him back to the ground two hours later, where paramedics and his relieved father were waiting.

It's understood that no charges will be laid.

It is unknown whether the teen got the photos that he climbed up the crane for.
