Newlywed police officer killed in Lviv 'terror attack' after Ukraine explosions

A newlywed police officer has been killed in a 'terror attack' in Lviv after the Ukrainian city was hit by multiple explosions.

Viktoria Shpylka, 23, died in the attack - which also left three people in critical condition and at least 22 others injured - earlier today.

The suspected terrorist attack happened as police responded to reports of a late-night break in - before at least two explosions went off near the city centre, according to authorities.

An initial blast went off after police arrived at the scene, while a second could be heard after more officers responded to the first explosion.

Tributes have since poured in for the young police officer, who was described by colleagues as 'sensitive, bright and sincere'.

They added: 'She knew how to support, listen and find a kind word even on the hardest of days.'

Ms Shpylka got married last year, with photographs showing her standing in her wedding dress next to her husband.

Other images posted as part of a tribute to the officer show her proudly wearing her police uniform.

'A girl from Volyn, she served in Kherson and Lviv regions. Just last year she got married. Bright, sincere, faithful to her Oath.

'Today her future has been cut short. We remember. We will not forgive. Forever in the ranks.'
