In Trump v. Barbara, the Supreme Court justices ruled that children born to parents here unlawfully, or only temporarily, still claim U.S. citizenship under the Fourteenth Amendment, with a few longstanding exceptions. That decision landed on June 30.
Less than six weeks later, the president signed a pair of executive orders that take advantage of every centimeter of leeway the Court allows. He aims to shut down the lucrative, gangrenous industry of birth tourism for good.
On August 6, Trump signed two new executive orders to curtail anchor birthing. One order identifies categories of children whose parents fall inside the historical exceptions the Court itself acknowledged. These exceptions include alien enemies, foreign government employees, those who buy access to citizenship through commercial schemes, or births in certain territories. Trump directed agencies to withhold recognition of citizenship in those situations.
The second order specifically ends birth tourism. It defines the practice as foreign nationals entering on temporary visas for the express purpose of giving birth on U.S. soil, or helping others do the same. Trump empowered the secretaries of State and Homeland Security to deny visas, revoke existing ones, bar entry, and target the businesses who run birth tourism schemes.
These steps matter because birthright citizenship creates clear, measurable harms.
It turns illegal entry or short-term presence into a permanent claim on the nation's resources. The anchor baby gains lifelong access to public schools, medical programs, food assistance, and, eventually, voting rights and the power to sponsor relatives. Native-born taxpayers who never consented to the parents' presence foot the bill. Americans compete for the same classrooms, hospital beds, and starter jobs.
Studies have long shown that households headed by illegal immigrants generate large net costs once U.S.-born children are counted. Citizenship, sanely defined, is membership in a self-governing people, not a free ticket handed out by geography alone. Nations from Australia to Ireland to most of continental Europe have restricted pure soil-based citizenship. Why? Because they recognized corrosive incentives and understood the strain on public resources.
There is also the stark reality that birth-tourist immigrants, whether legal or illegal, treat America not as a sovereign state, but as a system to be gamed. Their children no doubt inherit this view. When these kids grow into adults and start voting, they are highly prone to nation-wrecking politics. That includes third-worldist causes which wave a black flag against Western civilization.
The original meaning of the Citizenship Clause supports Trump's limits. The phrase "subject to the jurisdiction thereof" was understood by its Framers to exclude those who owe primary allegiance elsewhere. That includes diplomats, invading forces, and, by logical extension, people present in open violation of the laws. Expanding it to every birth on American soil was based on a later decision, not an unchangeable command.
Trump's new orders stay within the historical exceptions the Court recognized. He attacks the commercial industry that treats American citizenship as a product for sale. Birth-tourism operators advertise packages, coach clients to lie to consular officers, and profit while women are exploited and immigration laws are mocked.
Ending that racket restores integrity to the visa system and protects the value of citizenship for those who already hold it.
This is not abstract theory. It is concrete action in the middle of a pivotal midterm election year. For 15 straight months, no illegal aliens have been released into the country. More than three million illegal immigrants have been removed, including thousands with violent convictions. Denaturalization cases have been filed against 88 people who obtained citizenship fraudulently.
Taxpayer-funded benefits have been cut for more than 1.4 million illegal aliens, and illegal immigrants have been barred from more than a dozen health care programs. Visa processing has been paused for 75 high-risk countries, the citizenship test has been strengthened, and tens of thousands of illegal aliens have been purged from voter rolls.
These results show a president who treats sovereignty as non-negotiable and who delivers measurable progress instead of empty promises.
Republican voters should take note. Motivation is everything in election season. When a president keeps pushing forward after a judicial loss by refining his approach, closing loopholes, and defending the meaning of citizenship, he demonstrates seriousness. That resolve is an ironclad argument for turning out in November.
The alternative is not mild disagreement over policy details.
The Democrat party's socialist wing is ascendant. In addition to cancerous Marxism, it champions anti-white, anti-Semitic, and anti-first world convictions. The modern American socialist movement, led by self-described communists, has gained real institutional power. Its candidates have ousted or nearly ousted establishment Democrats in successive primary races.
Policy demands once considered fringe have gone mainstream. These include abolishing private health care, canceling student debt, defunding police forces, outlawing prisons, nationalizing industries, amnesty-plus-welfare for illegal aliens, disbanding the U.S. Senate, drafting a new constitution, and placing the Supreme Court under politicians' control, among other liberty-annihilating ideas.
This trash now constitutes baseline expectations inside the blue activist core. More and more Democrat politicians are falling in line, fearful of losing their next primary. Sensible progressives and beleaguered liberals who deviate face real problems. These include well-organized donor boycotts, explicit professional threats, and activist campaigns of sustained harassment. All because even minute compromise is deemed betrayal.
The blue brand has shifted left on culture, economics, and immigration faster than the median voter can tolerate. Working-class and minority voters who once formed the Democrat base have noticed. Internal cohesion suffers because socialists treats incrementalism as moral failure. This produces public conflict, diluted messaging, and an inability to govern within the constraints of reality.
Blue leftists are already rising in early 2028 polling. Socialists dig into safe Democrat seats while the rusting establishment pays the electoral price in competitive districts. This is not some passing fad. It is a concrete leftward migration of the party's median member, activist infrastructure, and governing priorities. The socialists, led by actual communists, act as an internal enforcement mechanism.
If Democrats gain the U.S. House, the Senate, or both, the damage to the second half of Trump's term, and to the country as a whole, will be incalculable.
Legislative obstruction and groundless investigations would begin immediately. The 2028 presidential cycle would open under maximum partisan warfare, with the socialist Democrats demanding even more radical steps.
The path forward is clear.
Protecting the integrity of American citizenship, ending the commercial traffic in birthright status, and taking Uncle Sam's immigration laws seriously are not formalities. They amount to putting America first. Trump keeps delivering on those fronts after a high court setback. That should give Republican voters every reason to show up this Autumn.
Failure to do so would hand the levers of power to Democrats, whose insurgent wing hardly pretends to respect the limits of constitutionalism or the consent of the governed.
The stakes are not theoretical. They are the difference between a country that still decides who belongs and a country that surrenders this decision. To whom? Anybody managing to cross the border or snag a temporary visa.
President Trump is doing what he can to make America great again. Will enough Republican voters do what they can to simply cast a ballot?
