More of that caption:
The boat had been reported stolen from a New Jersey marina, and its name was scraped off the stern.
The suspect, 27-year-old Brendan Norris, fled below deck before a gunshot was heard from inside the cabin, striking an officer in the leg.
Police returned fire, and Norris was later shot and pronounced dead at the scene.
This happened in Newport, Rhode Island, where the median home costs more than most Americans will earn in a lifetime.
Back on August 26, 27-year-old Brendan Norris of Newport opened fire on police seconds after they arrived.
From Fox News:
The stolen sailboat matched the description of a boat named "Pathfinder" that was reported stolen from Liberty Harbor Marina in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Police confirmed to Fox News Digital that Brendan Norris, 27, is the suspect who allegedly stole the boat from the marina and traveled from New Jersey to Rhode Island.
This was no dinghy. That's a two-masted Hinckley Bermuda 40 yawl, a classic yacht. The owner had even posted on social media asking people to help find it. Somehow, Norris had managed to pilot the stolen yacht all the way from Jersey to Newport, one of the most affluent and heavily policed resort towns in America.
Well, they found the yacht, and Norris paid for his crime with a short, lifetime sentence.
