The U.S. military on Monday launched strikes against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz.
The strikes targeted Iranians using surface-to-air missiles against the U.S. in the strategic waterway, the Associated Press reported,
citing an unnamed U.S. official.
Explosions were heard on the islands of Qeshm and Hengam in the strait, as well as the mainland area, according to Iranian state media.
Iranian negotiators left peace talks with Qatari mediators on Sunday, and a draft peace proposal is reportedly circulating with a follow-up meeting possible.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said over the weekend that President Donald Trump wants to resolve the conflict peacefully, but he hinted that military action was likely if diplomatic avenues fail.
