President Donald Trump praised United States Representative Haley Stevens for endorsing GOP Mike Rogers in the hotly contested Michigan Senate race as Democrat leaders bash the congresswoman for the perceived betrayal.
In a Sunday Truth Social post, Trump weighed in on Stevens' (D-Alaska) recent announcement that she was switching gears just two days ahead of elections, crossing the aisle to throw her support behind Rogers instead of Democrat nominee Abdul El-Sayed.
"Wow, this is BIG! Congresswoman Haley Stevens, a Highly Respected Democrat, who narrowly lost in the Primary to Abdul Mohamed El-Sayed, and who has been breathlessly wined and dined by the Dumocrats to help in their Michigan Campaign for the United States Senate against Mike Rogers, has just ENDORSED Mike Rogers for Senate!" Trump stated.
"Her following is huge, and the level of respect from the People of Michigan, especially our African American and Jewish populations, is virtually unparalleled. Haley said what few people are willing to say," the president continued.
"She showed great and almost unprecedented loyalty to the Great People of Michigan with what she did. It's a thing called bravery, and few people have it like just displayed by Congresswoman Haley Stevens!" he went on.
The president's approbation was paired with severe censure from Stevens' party, with prominent Democrat leaders condemning the move.
"This is a despicable betrayal from Rep. Stevens," Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) posted on X. "Senate Democrats are united in our support for Abdul El-Sayed, because we know he will fight for the economic interests of working families in Michigan, unlike Mike Rogers, who is a tool of Donald Trump and billionaire donors."

Senate Democrats are united in our support for Abdul El-Sayed, because we know he will fight for the economic interests of working families in Michigan, unlike Mike Rogers, who is a tool of Donald Trump and billionaire donors.
Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) called the endorsement "unforgiveable" on Stevens' part, and the Michigan Democratic Party voiced its unequivocal support for El-Sayed.
"Michigan Democrats stand united and fully behind [Abdul El-Sayed]. We reject the attempts by Haley Stevens and bad-faith actors to divide our party and undermine our momentum," the party posted on X.

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D-N.Y.) also condemned the endorsement, stating that she has "just betrayed" working class people "by endorsing the very Republican she wanted to run against."

Despite the strong censure from within her party, many Republicans voiced their support for her.
U.S. Representative Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) stated her office was willing to assist Stevens with any need.
"She has done more for this country than the majority of my colleagues on both sides of the aisle by taking a stand and putting country over party," she posted on X. "Let this be an example to all."
