The Snacks, Sips, And Games You Need To Survive Election Night
Something to take the edge off doing your civic duty.
Lauren Bair Welcome to election night! After a long campaign season, it's time to exercise our right to the snacks and games that make ballot counting fun again. You can taste a bit of history with the U.S. Senate's traditional bean soup or a Colonial-era Election Day cake. But no matter how the results shake out, these modern munchies send the message that this American has been radicalized by good taste.
THE SNACKS Guac The Vote Seven-Layer Dip
There may be "a lot to unpack" around key issues, but everyone will dig into this easy seven-layer party dip without a debate. Ranch and taco-seasoned canned refried beans get a topping of prepared guacamole, pico de gallo, fire-roasted corn, shredded lettuce, sour cream, and a patriotic smattering of olives, cherry tomatoes, and cheese stars for effect. Red and blue tortilla chips on the side mean you don't even need to count the votes to know this one's a ringer.
The People's Affordaburgers
Slash that inflated grocery budget in half with the Oklahoma onion burger-style sliders that eat like a meal, thanks to a little beefing up from thin-sliced onions. Tray-baked with American cheese, and sandwiched between toasted Hawaiian rolls, this Depression-era invention serves pure "Goldilocks economy" where everything tastes just right.
Patriotic Pretzel Sticks
If you're hoping to get the kids in on the election night fun, these sweet and crunchy pretzel sticks require just four ingredients and a little time to set the white chocolate. Crush red and blue hard candies, dip the pretzel rods in melted white chocolate, and roll in the candy (or patriotic cake sprinkles). Refrigerate until the chocolate is set and enjoy a sweet and salty treat that reaches across the aisle.
Apple Pie Ballot Bites
This one's as American as apple pie. With store-bought pie crust, cinnamon apple pie ballot bites come together with just five ingredients. You'll be folding dough into the shape of an envelope, but we promise it's even easier than voting in California without an ID.
Americana Snack Board
You chose your candidates; now it's time to curate your charcuterie. Keep our flag flying with a snack board featuring prosciutto, salami, strawberries, and cherries, in alternating stripes with brie, white cheddar, water crackers, and yogurt-covered pretzels. Go for blueberries and star-shaped cheese or black olives and mini mozzarella balls to represent these United States.
Drain The Swamp Spinach Artichoke Dip
Hot and cheesy spinach and artichoke dip provides the ultimate comfort food as we watch the votes come in. Cream cheese and mayo add tang, while three more cheeses, garlic, jarred artichokes, and frozen spinach add "swamp" energy to a cozy dish that — with crusty bread or potato chips on the side — is sure not to last long.
Liquid Democracy For All
Whether you're mixing for one or batching beverages for a party, sometimes the moment requires the perfect drink. If a smooth sip of bourbon warms your heart or you'd rather spice things up with tongue-tingling tequila, we've got your bar cart favorite.
