Well, that didn’t take long.
During President Donald Trump’s State of the Union this week, he asked members of Congress to stand if they agree that “The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”
Democrats, who have relied on promoting illegal immigration throughout the Joe Biden regime in Washington, continue to follow that ideology, and refused en masse to stand.
Commentators immediately predicted video of that is going to flood the media during this year’s midterm campaigns.
And only 36 hours after the event, that first ad has appeared.
The Washington Examiner reported the ad is “seeking to capitalize on Democrats‘ refusal to stand during a portion of President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address centered on illegal immigration.”
The message, from American Sovereignty, highlights Trump explaining of those who didn’t stand: “These people are crazy.
The camera swings from the Republican side, where members jumped up, cheered, applauding, to the Democrat side.
There, grim-faced senators and representatives stayed seated, some openly frowning.
Explained the report, “The television ad marks the GOP’s first effort to use the moment to build momentum for Republicans campaigning across the country ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. The 30-second video is set to play all year nationally as part of a seven-figure ad campaign focused on immigration, according to Politico. It will particularly target key states Michigan, North Carolina, and Georgia, where Republicans are defending vulnerable incumbents, and eying possible pickup opportunities to hold on to their narrow majority in the House and Senate.”
The line delivered by the ad: “Democrats are for illegal immigrant criminals. Republicans are for you.”
Chuck Schumer, the Senate minority leader, claims, “It was legitimate and right not to stand.”
He claimed, “No other police department in America run by Americans has done what ICE has done. So, yes, we want to protect Americans. He’s not doing it. And that’s why the American people are against what ICE is doing.”
WorldNetDaily reported that Trump delivered the question to Congress: “One of the great things about the State of the Union is how it gives Americans the chance to see clearly what their representatives really believe. So, tonight, I’m inviting every legislator to join with my administration in reaffirming a fundamental principle. If you agree with this statement, then stand up and show your support. The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens.”
A PJMedia report said, “Republicans exploded. They stood, clapped, and whistled for a solid two minutes. It was the kind of raw, spontaneous reaction you can’t manufacture.”
But Democrats? Stayed sitting. Didn’t move. “Not a shuffle.”
Trump pointed it out: “Isn’t that a shame? You should be ashamed of yourself, not standing up. … That is why I’m also asking you to end deadly sanctuary cities that protect the criminals and enact serious penalties for public officials who block the removal of criminal aliens, in many cases, drug lords, murderers, all over our country. They’re blocking the removal of these people out of our country! And you should be ashamed of yourself.”
