Ilhan Omar complains about constituent’s arrest over stunt at State of the Union
U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., has been embroiled in a long list of controversies in recent weeks. Now she’s added a new line to her to-do list for fights, complaining that a constituent she invited to the State of the Union was arrested after a stunt.

She’s already been shouting down critics of her Minnesota district’s Somali-community fraud on the scale of billions of dollars, criticizing the federal government’s crackdown on illegal aliens there, trying to explain her sudden explosion of wealth and much more.

The newest involves the arrest by police in the Capitol of Aliya Rahman on allegations of “unlawful conduct,” which could bring six months in jail and a $500 fine.

Rahman apparently stood up in the gallery during President Donald Trump’s speech, and is accused of refusing orders to sit down.

Omar, one of the more extreme left members of Congress, went to social media to complain.

The facts of the Rahman case likely will be played out in court, but the fact is while members of Congress are protected by the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause when they berate and badger a president during a speech in the House, constituents are not given the same protections. Stunts in the Capitol can be met with arrests.

Fox News reports Omar complained that Rahman was “forcibly removed” and charged.

The leftists at Democracy Now immediately posted a video joining in Omar’s complaints, giving their interpretation of the events.

Omar had invited Rahman because she triggered an “altercation” with federal immigration agents in Minnesota a few weeks ago.

Rahman told the leftist program, “There are only two things you can do at the State of the Union, and they are sit down and stand up.”

Online reporters noted Rahman had been confronted by officers in the Minnesota altercation, and apparently was given the opportunity to leave peacefully, but didn’t.

It was not the only conflict that developed at the speech.

The Daily Caller News Foundation said a Democratic congressman brought an illegal immigrant to President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech.

The guest of Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., Marcelo Gomes da Silva, had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers for overstaying a student visa.

“Gomes da Silva was hustled to the ex-Marine’s congressional office after the Department of Homeland Security noted he was in the country illegally in a Tuesday evening post on X, according to a Wednesday statement.” The report said.

Moulton’s spokesman said, “During last night’s State of the Union address inside the U.S. Capitol, a decision was made out of an abundance of caution to pull Congressman Moulton’s guest, Marcelo Gomes da Silva, from the House gallery audience after the official government account for the Department of Homeland Security issued this tweet at 8:24 PM ET targeting and harassing Marcelo.”

The statement said, “Marcelo was escorted from the House gallery at approximately 9:45 PM by a staff member from Congressman Moulton’s office. After leaving the State of the Union, Marcelo returned to Congressman Moulton’s office and watched the remainder of the speech from there.”

The report noted DHS also criticized Sens. John Hickenlooper of Colorado and Chuck Schumer of New York “for also bringing illegal immigrants to the address as guests.”
