Outgoing Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens was spotted sporting an unusual new look as she went to cast an election-day ballot alongside her mother.
Wearing a large straw hat that many online observers compared to one donned by video game character Carmen Sandiego, Stevens turned out to support Republican Mike Rogers in the state's hotly contested race for the Senate.
She was declared a 'traitor' for abandoning the state's Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed for Senate with a shocking eleventh-hour endorsement of Rogers on Sunday.
Her fiancé Jason Turkish, a Jewish Democrat, is being blamed for influencing her flip, which set off a firestorm within the Democratic Party.
Turkish has warned that El-Sayed's 'reckless' campaign rhetoric 'puts Jews at risk,' saying he will put 'country before party.'
Democratic ad maker Abby Anderson commented on Stevens' new look unveiled at the polls, calling it 'concerning.'
'I've maintained that this is all her personality up until the hat. The hat is concerning lol,' Anderson noted in a post on X.
Journalist and political commentator Molly Jong Fast expressed her disbelief on X, writing,' Wait, no? This is real?'
X user Jordan Zirm wrote that Stevens, 'pulled up to the ballot box like she just put her life savings on a horse at the Kentucky Derby.'

Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed speaks to his supporters at his last rally at The Majestic Theater on November 2, 2026, in Detroit, Michigan

US Representative Haley Stevens, a Michigan Democrat and the rival Abdul El-Sayed defeated in the Senate primary, speaks with the media next to Republican US Senate candidate Mike Rogers whom she endorsed, after attending the Perfecting Church in Detroit
Despite voting Republican, Stevens projected that Democrats would flip control of the House.
'It's the people's day. And I told this to our next Speaker of the House, Hakeem Jeffries: It's Majority Makers Day,' Stevens told NewsNation on Tuesday.
Stevens, who lost Michigan's Democratic primary to El-Sayed in August, insisted in a CNN interview on Sunday evening that her decision to back Rogers was 'rock solid.'
But she reportedly told fellow Democrats just hours earlier that she would not support the Republican candidate.
The stunning U-turn sparked fury across the Democratic Party, with senior lawmakers condemning Stevens, members of her staff resigning and President Donald Trump celebrating her decision.

When CNN host Anderson Cooper pressed her on Sunday night about what had changed, Stevens repeatedly complained about El-Sayed's behavior without identifying a specific turning point.
'Well, look, this is just a weight off my shoulders, okay?' she began. 'Abdul has been getting angrier and angrier. I was trying to help, and I endorsed him.'
Stevens has also criticized El-Sayed's appearances with controversial streamer Hasan Piker and questioned some of his political associations.
She has, however, maintained that she has remained a proud Democrat.
