Maine senator's office is splattered with paint as ballot machines break and disgruntled Democrats in Michigan and Alaska switch votes: Live updates

Maine senator's office is splattered with paint as ballot machines break and disgruntled Democrats in Michigan and Alaska switch votes: Live updates

Maine Senator Susan Collins' campaign office was vandalized with a chilling message in fake blood as chaotic incidents have gripped early midterms voting on election day.

Red graffiti reading 'BLOOD ON HER HANDS' was scrawled on Collins' Maine campaign office ahead of her re-election showdown against Democrat Troy Jackson, one of a few key races across the nation that will decide control of congress.

In New York, voting machines also failed in Westchester County amid a vital House election, with officials blaming the 'thickness' of ballot paper for causing widespread malfunctions and plunging the race into uncertainty.

Republican Rep. Mike Lawler's race in the deep-blue state could prove pivotal, with voters heading to the polls across the nation to decide the balance of power in congress for President Trump's final two years in office.

It comes as disgruntled Democrats in swing states told the Daily Mail they are switching their votes at the last minute after being turned off by dirty tricks and campaign antics from liberals.

Alaska voters said they were 'disgusted' by allegations that Democrat Mary Peltola recruited a 'decoy' candidate to confuse the electorate, while Jewish voters in Detroit said they have 'serious concerns' about Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.

With Republicans bracing for a 'blue tsunami' in the midterms, voting opened across the US on Tuesday morning as crucial Senate, House, and governor seats are up for grabs – and polling shows historical GOP strongholds have turned into political battlegrounds.

In the Senate, Democrats must flip four Republican-held seats to gain control. In the House, Democrats need to pick up just three seats.

The first polls close at 6pm ET and the last polls wrap up at 1am ET. Then the nation will wait as ballots are counted across the country to find out whether Republicans or Democrats will take power.

Maine Sen. Susan Collins' office vandalized with fake blood ahead of midterms showdown

The office of Maine Senator Susan Collins was vandalized overnight as protesters sprayed fake blood outside her official federal government office.

Graffiti reading 'BLOOD ON HER HANDS' was written in the fake blood outside Collins's office overnight Monday.

Collins is fighting for re-election against Democrat Troy Jackson in Tuesday's midterms, and the Republican told Fox News that her staff were 'undeterred' by the graffiti.

Democrat Haley Stevens ridiculed for bizarre new look at the polls after betraying Abdul El-Sayed: 'It's concerning'

Outgoing Michigan Democratic Congresswoman Haley Stevens was spotted sporting an unusual new look as she went to cast an election-day ballot alongside her mother.

Wearing a large straw hat that many online observers compared to one donned by video game character Carmen Sandiego, Stevens turned out to support Republican Mike Rogers in the state's

hotly contested race for the Senate.

She was declared a 'traitor' for abandoning the state's Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed for Senate with a shocking eleventh-hour endorsement of Rogers on Sunday.

The View host Sara Haines trembles with rage as she defends renegade turncoat Democrat Haley Stevens

The View co-host Sara Haines has came out and defended Democrat Haley Stevens over her shock endorsement of Republican Mike Rogers.

The Michigan politician said Sunday she had decided to vote for Representative Mike Rogers over Abdul El-Sayed in the midterms because her one-time Democratic rival 'chose to close his campaign by saying I wasn't welcome'.

During a discussion of the defection on The View, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro both said that Stevens jumped ship for all the wrong reasons.

But Haines, clearly raging over the chat, said: 'I disagree. And I actually think that, although there's a lot of Islamophobia here that are muddying the waters, there are deep concerns about his beliefs.

'Campaigning with Hasan Piker, you could not put enough room between me and that man. And we went after the Republicans for going around with Nick Fuentes, also problematic.

'We have got to know when we denounce someone. And if crossing party lines can be an act of conscience for Liz Cheney, I don't know why the automatic response was that this was betrayal somehow.'

Alaska reports huge early voting numbers as 'Decoy Dan' scandal upends key Senate race

Alaska election officials said the state has received almost 100,000 early ballots amid huge voter turnout in the midterms.

The number in Alaska includes early votes, mail ballots, online-delivery ballots, and in-person absentee ballots, with election day totals likely to break Alaska voting records.

The total on Tuesday is more than Alaska has received in the entirety of other midterm elections dating back two decades, except in 2022 when it reported 101,000 early ballots, reports CNN.

The huge early turnout numbers come as Democratic candidate Mary Peltola has denied allegations her campaign recruited a man with the same name as her GOP rival Dan Sullivan to confuse voters.

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins praises Trump's 'game-changing' record at the White House and urges Americans to vote

Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins spoke to reporters at the White House urging all Americans to 'get out and vote' and offered a sunny assessment of how President Donald Trump's policies were helpoing the country.

'I don't know that there will ever a time in history that is marked with more success than what President Trump has led these last couple of years,' she said, citing the president's success with border security, low crime, low poverty rates, energy production, and new trade deals.

She also celebrated Trump 'making America healthy again and putting real food back on the center of policy making' and 'massive game-changing freedom-preserving American dream-supporting changes.'

'Just get out and vote, that's my message,' she said in response to shouted questions as she returned to the West Wing.

Breaking:Trump celebrates GOP winning Guam governorship as first results of the midterms are revealed

Republican Tony Ada has been projected to become the new Governor of Guam in the first results of the 2026 midterm elections.

President Trump celebrated the results even as they remain unofficial at this time, as he said it was 'hopefully an indication for things to come!'

'Guam, which has always been considered strongly Democrat, just had an early call for a REPUBLICAN Victory in the top spot, Governor — Congratulations to Tony Ada!' Trump wrote on Truth Social.

'Also, the Republicans have the Majority in the State Senate.'

With all precincts reported, Ada won with 51.5 percent of the vote, to his Democrat challenger Theresa Terlaje's 48.1 percent.

However, Democrats did win Guam's non-voting delegate to the US House race, with Alicia Limtiaco defeating James Moylan.

Ohio primary school polling place evacuated after receiving two bomb threats

Two bomb threats within 10 minutes led a primary school in Ohio being used as a polling place to be evacuated on Tuesday.

The threats were made to Beverley Elementary in Toledo, Ohio, with the first threat made at 10:30am local time, the Toledo Police Department said.

At 10:39am, a second bomb threat was reported at a nearby location where a teacher's workday training was taking place.

The threats led the polling place to be evacuated and the Northwest Ohio Bomb Squad deployed a K-9 unit to sweep the area. Officials said no explosive devices were found, and it is unclear if the two bomb threats were connected.

In the nearby town of Bowling Green, two schools were also evacuated after receiving 'threatening calls' on Tuesday morning, reports NBC News.

Oklahoma man charged after mailing envelopes of white power to election officials

An Oklahoma man has been charged with 'conveying a hoax and mailing threatening communications' after he sent letters filled with white powder to election offices in Louisiana and Oklahoma.

The accused, Robin Martin, was arrested Monday and is expected to appear in the US District Court in Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Over 700 mailings containing the powder, which turned out to be flour or yeast in the cases that have already been investigated, were intercepted in states ranging from Idaho to Florida.

Everyone's predicting a Blue Tsunami... but I'm the pollster politicians hire for the MOST accurate data - and my private survey reveals a very different scenario: BRENT BUCHANAN

In the closing days of the 2026 midterms, I am not mincing words with my Republican clients. Put simply, angry voters tend to punish whoever is in charge – and right now that negative sentiment falls on the shoulders of the party in control of the White House and Congress.

Voters who believe that the country is on the wrong track plan to vote for the Democratic party by 61 points, according to Cygnal polling. Back in 2024, when President Donald Trump roared to victory in an electoral landslide over Vice President Kamala Harris, those voters backed Republicans by 45 points.

Another warning sign: Independents, who make up about a fifth of all midterm voters, lean Democratic by 14 points in our survey this week. That is half the 28-point gap we found in early October, but it is still more than triple the amount that Independents leaned Democratic in 2024.

Mike Rogers stresses his Michigan Senate election is 'the most important race in the country'

Republican nominee for Senate in Michigan Mike Rogers stressed that his race is 'the most important' of the midterms as he awaits results on election day.

Speaking to reporters after casting his vote on Tuesday, Rogers said he 'feels really good' about the race that could decide control of the US Senate.

'This has been a vigorous campaign for sure,' Rogers said, as he thanked Democratic Rep. Haley Stevens for her surprise endorsement of him on Monday.

He praised Stevens for putting 'country over party' as she rescinded her endorsement of his Democratic rival, Abdul El-Sayed.
