The Lewiston Police Department arrested a juvenile on Thursday after he was allegedly found driving a stolen car.
On Thursday evening, an Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) Flock camera notification flagged a vehicle traveling through Lewiston that had reportedly been stolen from New Portland.
Officers responded and pulled the vehicle over.
They confirmed that it had allegedly been stolen, and a search of the vehicle revealed items indicating alleged involvement in other criminal activity.
Police did not specify what those items were or what criminal activity they indicated.
Police identified one of the minors in the vehicle as someone well known to them who had been arrested and transported to Long Creek Youth Development Center on multiple occasions in the past year.
He was out on probation at the time of the incident and taken into custody again.
He was once again transported to Long Creek.
Police did not indicate whether any of the other juveniles in the car were also arrested.
“This incident also highlights the ongoing challenges surrounding repeat juvenile offenders and the juvenile justice system, in Maine. Despite multiple prior detentions to Long Creek and being placed on probation, this individual continues to be involved in criminal activity,” said the Lewiston Police Department.
