One person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting inside the Spirit Halloween store at Solano Town Center in Fairfield, California, on Friday night.
Fairfield police responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 8:30 p.m. local time and found seven people with gunshot wounds. One victim died at the scene; the other six were transported to local hospitals, with at least three in critical condition.
Victim identities have not been released, and the Solano County Coroner's Office has not publicly identified the deceased as of Saturday.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this heartbreaking incident," Fairfield Police Chief Dan Marshall stated during a press conference late Friday night. He added that seven victims were confirmed, and that "It appears the shooting was centered on the Halloween store."
He noted that investigators did not yet know if one or multiple people were involved and had not determined whether the shooting was targeted or gang-related at that time. "I know the mall has cameras, so hopefully we'll get some of that footage," Marshall added before asking any members of the public with information to come forward.
