JUST IN: Race Called For Incumbent Democrat Senator Before Results Reported

According to Decision Desk HQ, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) is projected to win a fourth term in Virginia.

The projection was announced with zero percent of the vote reported after polls closed at 7 p.m. EST.

The Hill shared further:

Warner has served in the upper chamber since 2009 and is the vice chairman of the Senate's Select Committee on Intelligence. The incumbent is also a vice chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus.

The Democrat previously served as governor of Old Dominion State from 2002-2006. A Republican has not been elected to the Senate in the state since 2002.

Warner is the wealthiest Democratic senator, per Investopedia, with a net worth of over $200 million. Before entering politics, he was a venture capitalist and tech entrepreneur.

CNN made the same projection:

Bert Mizusawa challenged Warner for the seat in the blue-leaning state.

More from the Associated Press:

Mizusawa is a retired Army major general and Afghanistan war veteran.

Warner's victory comes in a state with some of the highest numbers of federal workers, who bore the brunt of President Donald Trump's efforts to slash the government workforce early in his second term.
