Serving as head of the Civil Rights Division since April 2025, Dhillon oversaw investigations into university admissions, hiring, and training programs following the Supreme Court's 2023 ruling against race-conscious admissions. In addition, Dhillon managed election-related matters for the Department of Justice and led litigation during the Trump administration against prominent U.S. institutions facing allegations of campus antisemitism.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Dhillon explained that she had submitted her resignation weeks earlier to White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles. At Wiles' request, she delayed the public announcement until after the midterm elections and noted that she intends to return to private practice at her law firm.
"I wasn't asked to resign," Dhillon stated. "I resigned three weeks ago, and Susie asked me to please wait until after the midterms."
Her resignation comes two days after the Republicans suffered major losses in the midterm elections.
