Nick Reiner has pleaded not guilty to murdering his parents.

On Monday, the 32-year-old entered his plea in a Los Angeles courtroom, wearing a brown jumpsuit with his arms and legs shackled. Reiner is accused of stabbing his father, Hollywood director Rob Reiner, and his mother, Michelle, to death at their home in December.

Reiner is facing two counts of first-degree murder.

L.A. District Attorney Nathan Hochman said the case is on track. He added that the bulk of discovery is in the hands of the defense as they continue waiting for the coroner’s report.

Hochman also said his office has not ruled out seeking the death penalty.

“This case is a death penalty eligible case. Along those lines, we take the process in which we determine whether or not the death penalty should be sought extremely seriously and it goes through a very rigorous process. We will be looking at all aggravating and mitigating circumstances,” Hochman stated while outside the court after the hearing.
