The Brewer Police Department apprehended a person who fled involuntary medical commitment on Wednesday with help from a K-9 Unit.
Brewer officers responded to a missing person complaint involving an involuntarily committed individual.
The person was being transported by medical staff to a third-party location for treatment and allegedly fled into the wooded area off Dirigo Drive.
Members of the public told responding officers that they had seen the missing person travelling through the area.
Out of concern for the person’s safety, police requested assistance including a K-9 team from the Old Town Police Department and a Drone Team from the Penobscot Sheriff’s Department.
With help from the additional resources, officers successfully tracked down the person and returned him to the medical facility.
Though police did not specify whether the individual was considered a threat to the public, they did reveal that Brewer Public Schools in the area were placed on a temporary lockdown during the incident.
