Police issued a criminal summons for Jonathan McDonald, 22, of Laconia, New Hampshire, charging him with accidents involving death or personal injury, driving to endanger and accident reports.

The crash took place on Oct. 14 at approximately 8:17 a.m. near mile marker 150 on I-95 northbound in Pittsfield.

McDonald was reportedly driving a pickup truck while towing a black dump trailer when his trailer struck a concrete Jersey barrier.

The barrier then propelled a construction barrel into one of the workers, Richard Smart, 56, of Westfield.

McDonald reportedly failed to stop, and Smart was transported to the Northern Light Sebasticook Valley Hospital for treatment for serious but non-life-threatening injuries but has since been released.

There is no booking photo available of McDonald because he was issued a summons rather than arrested.
