Ken Paxton’s Office Arrests Multiple Felons For Illegally Voting In Texas Elections

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton's office announced Saturday that it had arrested multiple convicted felons accused of casting ballots while ineligible under state law.

The action stemmed from a tip received on October 27, Paxton's office stated in a press release. A concerned citizen reported that individuals who were incarcerated, on parole, or on probation had allegedly voted in Harris County and supplied open-source information supporting the claim.

Analysts with the Office of the Attorney General's Election Integrity Unit reviewed the identities of the people named in the report, examined their voter registration records, and checked whether they had cast ballots in the 2026 election. Investigators then referred the cases to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for confirmation of each person's supervision status.

The agency verified that multiple individuals were on parole at the time they voted, which rendered them ineligible under the Texas Election Code.

Under Texas law, a person finally convicted of a felony loses the right to vote for the duration of the sentence. That period includes any term of incarceration, parole, or probation. Voting rights are restored automatically only after the full sentence has been completed, at which point the individual must re-register to vote.

On October 30, arrest warrants were issued in Montgomery County for the individuals identified to that point. Officers from the Attorney General's office then carried out the arrests. The office stated that the Election Integrity Unit continues to investigate additional reports of possible election crimes.

"Today, my office arrested convicted felons for voting illegally in Texas. My Election Integrity Unit is actively investigating additional reports of election crimes. We will continue working to protect the lawful votes of Texans," Paxton said in the press release.

The exact number of people arrested was not specified in the announcement, which described the cases as involving "multiple individuals." The investigation focused on alleged violations related to the 2026 election cycle in Harris County, with the warrants processed through Montgomery County courts.

The arrests come on the heels of a broader crackdown on illegal and noncitizen voting from the Trump Administration.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security have separately announced that dozens of noncitizens had been arrested nationwide for unlawfully registering or casting ballots in U.S. elections. Separately, the Department of Justice announced charges involving groups of noncitizens in cases spanning California, Florida, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York, Nevada, Minnesota, and Louisiana, among other jurisdictions.

The federal cases involve allegations of voting by noncitizens in federal elections and related false statements concerning citizenship.
