PARIS — A stunning and unexpected migrant rush into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta prompted alarm bells across Europe just as the major vacation season was in full swing.

But just as over 50,000 largely Moroccan and sub-Saharan African migrants surged across the common frontier of this tiny territory on the Moroccan coast, then the mystical migrant onslaught reversed like the tides and the people started going home!

Was this a ruse? Or a test? A dystopian dream in the heat of Summer?

The French daily Le Figaro headlined, "Europe under the Shock of a Wave of Migrants from Ceuta."

Ceuta has been a strategic Spanish toe-hold on the African coast since 1580. It sits aside the strategic and narrow Strait of Gibraltar, which in recent decades has been a major conduit of
illegal migrants from the African continent entering sovereign Spanish territory and in the wider context the European Union.

A California man has been charged with federal firearm-related offenses after he was apprehended on Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Los Angeles, two days before President Donald Trump was scheduled to arrive, reportedly for an RNC fundraiser.

Jeanine John Taele, 38, of Downey was charged with several felonies including second-degree robbery, receiving a large-capacity magazine and possession of a short-barreled rifle or shotgun, a felony with a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Taele was ordered to stay away from the golf course and not possess weapons. His bail was set at $250,000.

A spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney's Office told Newsweek Wednesday that Taele remained in state custody at a downtown Los Angeles jail and has not yet been transferred to federal authorities.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee voted on Thursday to recommend former Covid czar Anthony Fauci be held in contempt of Congress.

The vote follows Fauci invoking the Fifth Amendment 111 times during a committee hearing last week on the pandemic response and the origins of the Covid virus.

The vote by the committee, which is chaired by Kentucky Republican Sen. Rand Paul, initiates a process that would result in the Justice Department considering whether to charge him with a crime.

Whether the Justice Department does take up the matter is complicated by Joe Biden'a auto-pen pardon of Fauci for any crimes he might have committed dating back to 2014.
