Houston Mayor Claims His Executive Order Protecting Illegals Improves 'Public Safety'
Craig BannisterUnder the guise of protecting "public safety," Democrat Houston Mayor John Whitmire signed an executive order Friday protecting illegal aliens in his city.
Public safety remains my highest priority. I signed an executive order directing HPD to limit contact with ICE, keeping officers focused on violent crime and helping reduce fear among Houston families, students, and workers. pic.twitter.com/CTyFQiA6ZW

I have signed an executive order directing HPD to no longer contact ICE for nonviolent offences, helping reduce fear in our communities. Thank you to Chief Diaz, our state and local leaders for their collaboration. A step toward building a stronger Houston. Let’s Go to Work. pic.twitter.com/r5jshAdqWS

The mayor signed his executive order three days after the midterm elections and two months before his anti-immigration law enforcement party takes control of both chambers of Congress.
"I will take responsibility for making this change, even with the current administration still in office for the next two months. As I've said many times, elections matter," the Democrat mayor said.
Whitmire provided an example how people who violate immigration law will be protected:
"If our police officers pull someone over for a minor traffic infraction and they write a citation, that person receives a citation and goes about their day. HPD will no longer contact ICE if they have an administrative warrant and they are not arrested."
"No one should have to worry about HPD conducting a warrant search, including searches involving ICE, unless an individual is being charged with a new jailable offense, including dangerous or violent crimes," Whitmire said.
