Pregnant British mother, 40, who left home to start new life with new husband in Nigeria dies along with her unborn baby as family launch appeal to bring her body home

A pregnant British woman who had left the UK to begin a new life in Nigeria with her husband has died along with her unborn child.

Claire Chadwick, who was 37 weeks pregnant, died from septic shock after experiencing medical complications.

Her unborn child passed away in the womb, with Claire later developing sepsis before passing away.

The 'funny' and 'fiercely strong-minded' mother was expecting a baby girl with her husband Ibrahim, before suddenly passing away while living abroad.

The 40-year-old, who had moved to the African country to be with her husband, amassed thousands of followers on social media in recent years.

She and Ibrahim would regularly post videos on TikTok and Instagram sharing videos about food challenges, their faith, as well as their relationship.

Her devastated family have since launched a GoFundMe in the hopes of raising £10,000 to fly her 3,000 miles home to the UK.

'More than anything, we want them both returned so they can be laid to rest with dignity, surrounded by the family who love them,' her sister Shannon said.

She also said her late sister is survived by her 19-year-old son in Wales, her husband and family 'who loved her dearly'.

'She was a woman who lived her life in her own way and she will leave a lasting impression on everyone who knew her,' Shannon told WalesOnline.

She said the response to the fundraiser was 'overwhelming', and thanked charity REST, which supports bereaved families of those who die abroad suddenly or tragically.

Tributes have flooded the GoFundMe launched by Claire's family, describing the 40-year-old as 'lovely' and 'kind'.

'So, so sorry to hear this,' one wrote. 'I remember Claire from when we were little and went dancing together. My mum actually has a few pictures of us all somewhere.

'Rest in peace, lovely.'

'I'm so devastated; she was such a kind and caring woman,' a second said, while a third added: 'She was such a beautiful girl. Always made people laugh.'

The Daily Mail has approached the Foreign Office for comment.
