Teenage Halloween party at £800,000 home degenerates into 'mayhem' with huge police response after event gatecrashed by more than 200 youths

A Halloween house party thrown for teenage siblings degenerated into 'mayhem' when word spread on social media and more than 200 youths descended.

Ten police officers ended up being called to their company director father's £800,000 home amid reports of youngsters drinking alcohol, taking drugs, letting off fireworks and playing loud music.

Three of the gatecrashers were arrested at the scene and another hospitalised as neighbours complained of 'bedlam'.

Police resorted to issuing a plea on Facebook for parents to collect their children,  some of whom had travelled from 30 miles away, with many 'under the influence of alcohol'.

Today Sam Mills, 46, who hosted Friday night's party for his two teenage children near Chorley, Lancashire, said it had been 'a relief' to see police arrive.

'Things had started to get out of hand,' he told the Daily Mail following the clean-up operation. 'It was mayhem.

'I looked round and police were there, and I thought "Fair enough, I could do with a hand here".'

Around 30 guests were expected at the party at the secluded property.

But once the location was shared on social media, teenagers aged between 14 and 17 began arriving from parties which had finished for the night, and by 10.30pm it was getting out of control.

Today neighbours told of 'chaos', with scores of youngsters spilling out into an unlit country lane.

'There were youngsters all over the road who had no idea how dangerous it is because drivers speed along here,' one said.

'I kept shouting at them to get off the road before they got themselves killed.

'There have been Halloween parties at that house before but nothing like this. It was bedlam for while.'

Describing how the party degenerated into every parent's nightmare, Mr Mills said the event 'went wild on social media'.

'There were people coming from places like Blackpool and Manchester, over 30 miles away.

'We got too busy in the kitchen so I moved the music to the patio doors and started getting everyone out of the house and into the garden.

'I thought everything was all right, but when I looked outside it was like a football match.

'One young lad had drunk too much.

'I don't know where he got the alcohol from but he was sick and so I got someone to ring his mum to come and pick him up.

'She came and thought he was really bad so she took him to hospital. I think she may have rung the police.

'I had nothing to do with the drink or the drugs which I believe was cannabis found on one young lad out in the garden.'

Shortly afterwards police 'just turned up', Mr Mills said.

'The way it had escalated, it was relief to see them. Things had started to get out of hand. It was mayhem.

'I think these kids had been to other parties, and when theirs finished they've seen ours on social media and came here.'

In their social media post, local police said the homeowner had 'barricaded' a door in a bid to keep the revellers out.

But today Mr Mills said: 'I didn't barricade myself in. I was trying to keep everyone contained in the garden.'

Despite the invasion, he said there were only 'a few things' which got broken, with a cleaning company removing the remaining mess.

Three children were arrested at the scene before one was de-arrested and taken home.

The other two were later released from custody and referred to youth offending teams, one for possession of cannabis and the other for being drunk and disorderly in a public place.

No one was seriously injured but an investigation is underway regarding the hospitalisation of a child, Lancashire Police said.

Describing the night's chaos, Sergeant Paul Harrison said police received 'reports that fireworks had been set off towards a nearby house and it was believed to have been done by children attending this party'.

He said that upon arriving at the house, it was evident that alcohol and cannabis were being consumed.

It was the 'general consensus of the officers that there were in excess of 200 children present', he added.

The music was also extremely loud and 'disturbing the peace of nearby residents', he added, with officers who arrived to calm the situation having 'projectiles' thrown at them.

'It was due to the above reasons that we made the decision to shut down the party,' Sergeant Harrison added in a Facebook post.

He  added that due to the 'sheer amount of attendees to the party' it was decided that the best way to inform their parents and 'minimise the risk to children' was a post on social media.

'Unfortunately, due to other demand there were only ten officers at the scene in comparison to over 200 attendees so we did not have the capacity or capability to take the children home,' he added.

Appealing for information about illegal activity around the party, he added: 'As many of us police officers are parents ourselves we understand and share the concerns you have for your children.

'We would want the police to take positive action against people involved in supplying drugs, fireworks and alcohol to children so you have your chance to help us.'
