Teenager killed after being hit by car and thrown into path of second vehicle on Adelaide party strip

A teenager has died after being hit by a car and knocked into the path of another vehicle on Adelaide's busy party strip.

Witnesses saw the young man, 18, trying to cross Hindley Street just before 11pm on Saturday.

The busy street was shut down after the accident.

His death has sparked fresh calls to close the road to traffic during peak periods, such as on Friday and Saturday nights.

'People are always crossing, like, constantly across Hindley,' Sebastian Dilettoso told Nine News

'You want to hop clubs, hop bars. They should really make it easier to cross.'

City of Adelaide councillor Mary Couros said a makeover was underway on the street.

'It seems to be a really good, quick fix for now until we do upgrade the street,' she said.

Hindley Street has not undergone a major update since 1999.

'The first step here is to mourn this young man, this untimely death, get to the bottom of what occurred, and see what we can do to respond,' Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis said.
