US launches 'secret' military strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island one day ahead of crucial midterm elections

Donald Trump has authorized defensive strikes on Iranian targets on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz just one day before the midterm elections, a US official confirmed.

Iranian state television reported that explosions were heard on Qeshm Island. The official, who wasn't authorized to comment publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity, said 'Iranians using surface-to-air missiles against US assets' had been targeted.

The strikes, which appeared to be limited as opposed to a full return to hostilities, came on the eve of crucial American midterm elections.

The Wall Street Journal reported that the US has been secretly carrying out the strikes for the last few weeks.

Trump has previously said the US wouldn't launch strikes on Iran before the midterms.

'We had a war with Iran. We won,' the President said on Monday.

'I don't know if you even call it a war because we haven't been doing any fighting for months.'

Officials told WSJ the strikes were meant to stop Iran from being able to attack allied ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

One official claimed that the US has been avoiding publicly announcing attacks to signal they're not looking to restart and large scale operations.

The Daily Mail has reached out to both the White House, CENTCOM and the Pentagon for comment.

The unpopular Iran war and the resulting impact on US gasoline prices and other parts of the economy have been a vulnerability for Republicans as they try to keep control of Congress.

Vice President JD Vance told reporters earlier Monday that he just spoke to Trump about talks with Iran and said 'the president and I both feel pretty good about the prospects for potentially coming to a negotiated settlement.'

This is a breaking news story.
