Police recovered a handgun that they believe was used in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old congressional intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym in June of last year.
U.S. Park Police pulled over a stolen Honda on Oct. 21, in northwest Washington, D.C. The officers made three arrests, and a subsequent search of the car found two 9 mm handguns.
Both weapons had extended magazines and "giggle switches," which can be used to make the guns automatic, 4Washington reported.
The three gunmen involved in the shooting fired a total of 79 rounds. Two of the guns used in the shooting were rifles, but a third was a 9mm pistol.
Three people were charged last year in the shooting. In a letter to attorneys representing the three accused, prosecutors said they are conducting DNA tests on the recovered firearm, magazines and bullets to determine if there's a link to any of the suspects facing murder charges.
Tarpinian-Jachym, of Granby, Massachusetts, was caught in the crossfire near the convention center on June 30, 2025, when three armed suspects exited a stolen vehicle and began firing at two other men, CBS News reported. Tarpinian-Jachym was shot four times.
