Number of obese adults in England has doubled to 14.3m since UK's first obesity strategy in 1992, damning analysis reveals

The number of obese adults in England has doubled to 14.3million since the UK's first obesity strategy was published in 1992, damning new analysis reveals.

John Major's Conservative government vowed to cut obesity among men by a quarter and women by a third in its pioneering 'Health of the Nation' document but rates subsequently soared.

Since then, a further 13 national obesity strategies have been published, each of which has failed to stem the crisis, the King's Fund think tank says.

Its latest research shows there are 7.2 million more adults living with obesity than would be the case if rates had stayed the same as 1993, when the Health Survey for England first published obesity prevalence data.

The percentage of adults who were either obese or severely obese rose from 15 per cent to 30 per cent from 1993 to 2024, the most recent year available.

The King's Fund is now calling for urgent action to address the 'obesity time-bomb' and warns GLP1 fat jabs, such as Mounjaro and Wegovy, are not the 'silver bullet'.

It's analysis, shared exclusively with the Daily Mail, reveals the rise in obesity has been

Lesbian throuple implodes after glamorous younger third wheel accused self-help guru lovers of denying her $3.5m payout she says she was owed

A lesbian throuple who gained millions of fans with their self-help lifestyle tips saw their blossoming romance crumble after their younger third-wheel launched a scathing lawsuit against her former lovers.

Nicole LePera, 43, and her wife Lauren Galvin, the glamorous influencers behind the popular 'Holistic Psychologist' empire, are facing allegations from their former lover Jenna Weakland over claims they cheated her out of a promised $3.5 million payout.

Weakland alleges in a lawsuit obtained by the New York Times that she was erased from their brand despite claiming to have been a central figure in its growth. The Holistic Psychologist Instagram currently boasts over 9 million followers.

But in a counter-suit launched by LePera and Galvin's production company seen by the Daily Mail, the couple claim that Weakland was essentially a customer service agent for the brand after they already built it.

The clashing lawsuits each allege their glamorous online personas hid abuse and violence, and Weakland claims that LePera threw her down a flight of stairs, per her filing.

LePera and Galvin deny those claims and allege that Weakland assaulted Galvin and threatened to harm herself and release a damaging tell-all memoir

Democrat candidate bemoans confusing new racial 'slur' in bizarre race against hyperwoke socialist opponent who wants to cancel her favorite holiday

A black Democratic candidate running to be the next governor of Wisconsin  complained that it is a 'slur' to refer to him as an 'establishment' option.

David Crowley, the Milwaukee County Executive, told a rally that he finds the characterization insulting earlier this week.

Crowley is running against socialist candidate Francesca Hong, who has faced scrutiny from opponents for several extreme far-left positions she has taken in the past.

She has portrayed Crowley as the establishment choice, citing his endorsement by the incumbent governor and his substantial fundraising advantage in recent weeks.

Polls show Crowley is trailing Hong by double digits with just a week to go before the August 11 primary despite her controversial stances.

'I'm trying to figure out who "the establishment' is,'" he told the crowd at a rally in Madison on Wednesday.

'My parents were drug addicts, suffered from mental health, I worked extremely hard to be where I am today.

'When people try to call me the establishment, I look at that as a slur, particularly as an African American candidate.

Navy swimmer suffers horrific and excruciating burns in devastating 'flame jetting' accident while using popular Amazon product

A former Navy search-and-rescue swimmer suffered burns all over his body while using a popular Amazon-sold tabletop fire pit device, a lawsuit claims.

Anthony Trevino, 31, claimed he suffered severe burns while trying to refuel the portable backyard fire pit in September 2025.

The injuries occurred after the fire pit allegedly exploded, causing 'gruesome third-degree burn injuries to his face, ears, neck, torso, arms, hands, and fingers.'

The explosion was so severe that it melted a nearby light and charred the balcony fencing, according to court documents.

Trevino was 'hospitalized for many weeks,' and claims certain injuries and scars will remain for the rest of his life.

'I never imagined a product sold to me as 'safe and easy' would do this to me in my own home,' Trevino said in a statement.

The product, made by Colsen Fire Pits and Gusar, LLC and sold by Amazon, is a tabletop fire pit fueled by rubbing alcohol.

The lawsuit, filed August 5 in San Diego Superior Court, accused Amazon and Colsen Fire Pits of selling the device despite knowing it was a 'defective and hazardous product known to have caused numerous burn injuries.'

Sinister truth about Candace Owens video showing Charlie Kirk assassin's 'military crawl'... and fears over unstoppable invasion of 'broader network'

Family members of the late Charlie Kirk wept quietly in a Provo, Utah, courtroom during a preliminary hearing last month as they watched new security video evidence prosecutors say shows his alleged murderer Tyler Robinson.

The campus surveillance footage allegedly showed Robinson climbing the stairwell to the Losee Center roof at Utah Valley University, prosecutors detailed, followed by distant security footage of a figure running across the rooftop.

The courtroom audience watched a figure lowering himself and crawling to a corner of the building at 12.22pm and lying in a prone position. Kirk was shot dead at 12.23pm.

Robinson, 22, a left-wing college dropout, has been charged with killing Kirk, the 31-year-old former leader of Turning Point USA (TPUSA). He has not yet entered a plea.

Kirk's friends in the room breathed sighs of relief. After months of suffering wild online conspiracy theories, here was the evidence they believed would put questions and conspiracies to rest.

Robinson's defense objected to the video being aired to the public on the grounds that it was 'altered' and 'extremely prejudicial.'

Wealthy Lake Tahoe community up in arms over tree poisoner who keeps killing majestic lakeside pines

Residents of an exclusive Lake Tahoe community are searching for answers after someone poisoned 16 mature pine trees in the latest attack in a years-long series of vandalism incidents that have damaged nearly 30 trees and caused more than $300,000 in losses.

The Washoe County Sheriff's Office is investigating after employees with the Incline Village General Improvement District (IVGID) discovered the apparent poisoning at Burnt Cedar Beach in Incline Village, Nevada, on Sunday.

Authorities believe the trees were poisoned sometime between 11.30am on August 1 and 5am on August 2.

It marked the third reported tree poisoning this year and the fifth since 2022, according to SFGATE.

Workers contacted deputies after noticing a strong chemical odor coming from a stand of trees near the east end of the private beach.

Investigators determined multiple trees had been deliberately poisoned, though they have not identified the substance used.

A trail camera captured a brief flash of light near the area at about 2am, but investigators said they have not identified a suspect or determined a motive. Deputies are canvassing the neighborhood for additional surveillance footage.

'The deliberate destruction of these trees is deeply troubling

Melbourne glamour couple torn apart after ecstasy raid: She walked free... now we reveal what was seized at a second home, why they didn't speak for months and the allegations still hanging over her husband

An accused drug trafficker and his glamorous wife have only just resumed speaking, months after they were both arrested in a major drug raid in January.

Darren Tennent has indicated he is willing to plead guilty to trafficking ecstasy after he was allegedly busted with a plethora of drugs at his Melbourne home while his wife Natalie Cockburn was also present at the address.

Tennent, 42, and Ms Cockburn were arrested at their Mount Waverley unit on January 21 after Australian Border Force officers raided the property for an 'unrelated matter'.

Ms Cockburn was charged with 29 offences alongside her husband, but last month was cleared of any wrongdoing and had all charges dropped.

However, fallout from the bust meant she was barred from contacting her husband, and she relocated to Queensland while charges against her were still pending.

Tennent appeared before Melbourne Magistrates' Court on Thursday for a summary jurisdiction application after being charged with trafficking ecstasy.

He was remanded in custody after ABF officers allegedly found multiple bags of orange ecstasy tablets weighing a total of 414 grams.

Ex-Senator Kyrsten Sinema prepares to testify against bodyguard boyfriend's ex-WIFE with thousands on the line in 'homewrecker' lawsuit

Former Arizona Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema will share testimony this month about her affair with a married bodyguard after his ex-wife sued her.

The relationship is laid out in court documents filed in the so-called 'homewrecker' lawsuit filed by Heather Ammel, who accuses Sinema of 'deliberate' interference in ending her nearly 15-year marriage to Matthew Ammel, the father of her three children.

The shock development could tee up a made-for-TV moment since she is expected to appear in person. She could also opt to provide a pre-recorded deposition, or written testimony, in the explosive case.

But Sinema, who is known for her bold and bright fashion choices, isn't one to shy away from the limelight.

Heather Ammel sued Sinema last year for acting with 'deliberate' and 'malicious' interference to seduce her husband. She is seeking damages from Sinema in excess of $25,000 as a direct result of the harm, as well as punitive damages.

But should the lawsuit proceed, Sinema could be on the hook for a much bigger payout. That's because her former security guard-turned-lover had been living in North Carolina at the time.

My mother died days after being fed heated dog food by a care worker... I couldn't grieve her because I was fighting for justice in her name

The daughter of an elderly woman who was fed dog food that had been heated up in her microwave just days before her death said she was 'unable to grieve' as she was battling for justice.

Joyce, 96, who the Daily Mail has agreed to only identify by first name, began receiving care from Radis in August 2022 after a fall. By June 2024, she had entered end-of-life care.

As part of her care plan, Joyce was unable to eat any solid food and was only allowed yoghurts and liquids, due to a risk of choking.

However, just three weeks before her death, a care worker took the dog food out of the freezer, before heating it up in the microwave and spoon feeding it to the pensioner.

The meal was fed to Joyce despite the fact it was kept in packaging labelled 'for adult dogs and puppies'. The care worker logged it as a 'lamb dinner'.

Portsmouth City Council, which had commissioned Radis to provide care services for people in the area, has apologised and dropped the care firm's services.

Joyce's daughter Justine Morrison said she initially thought it was a joke when she picked up a

The family of a British woman found dead in a suitcase in Athens after allegedly being killed by an Afghan migrant has spoken out for the first time.

Sharif Ahmadzai, a boxer from Afghanistan, is being held in connection with the death of Elisabeth Jane Ross after he refused to enter a plea on Thursday.

Ms Ross had been a regular visitor to Greece, volunteering with NGOs helping refugees, homeless people and other vulnerable groups, particularly those from Afghanistan or Iran.

The Briton, who was from Edinburgh, arrived in Athens on June 26 and had initially been staying with Greek friends in the Keratsini district, the country's main seaport close to the city.

Police confirmed she moved to Rethymnou Street in the city centre on July 2 and was volunteering with a Christian-based NGO working with refugees - two weeks later her body was discovered in an abandoned building.

In a statement on Thursday, her family said: 'Lisa will always be remembered by us as kind, principled and selfless.

Gray-haired road rage driver filmed hurling bloodcurdling threats at terrified mother who had toddler in back seat

A graying driver has been caught on video threatening to kill a young mother and her baby during a terrifying road rage incident in North Carolina

Myeka Dunn was driving down Highway 85 with her three-year-old son on Friday when her car was nearly hit by a driver in a blue SUV after he cut her off around 4.30pm, she claimed on Facebook

'He was swerving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed,' she wrote.

She proceeded to honk her horn at him, only for him to allegedly 'slam on his brakes in front of us.'

Dunn honked again and maneuvered her car around his to 'get out of his way,' but he quickly caught up with them and allegedly slammed on his brakes again.

The shaken mom pulled out her phone to record as she drove by him again, only for him to roll down his window as he came up next to her, pointing his finger out the window.

'You're going to die, you're going to die!' the man can be heard screaming. 'I could kill you!'

Two lions that were ripped from their mother at birth and passed around as trophy pets in a war zone have walked on grass for the first time - thanks to a British charity

A British charity has plucked two lions from a war zone and taken them to a new life of freedom in Africa, where they have been able to walk on grass for the first time.

Ben-Tzur and Ori, who were ripped from their mother shortly after birth and passed around owners as trophy pets.

They were found one tied to a tree in a yard and the other in a basement in Israel.

Just when their luck seemed to be changing, they were stranded because of the Middle East conflict.

But, thanks to Animal Defenders International (ADI), their forever home will be the rolling grasslands of the charity's 455-acre sanctuary in South Africa where they can learn to roar with other lions and develop their animal instincts.

ADI founders Jan Creamer and Tim Phillips, from Surrey, accompanied the lions on the 50-hour journey from Israel to Johannesburg via Cairo and Frankfurt.

'They visibly changed the moment they arrived at our sanctuary and after a first night sleeping on a nest of hay, they walked out of their house and mapped the layout of their territory, and continue
