Let's face it. Americans aren't known for their healthy eating.
Otherwise, RFK Jr. wouldn't be out there filming healthy cooking classes for us.
So, we don't really need a big excuse to cut our healthy food intake. And the recent Mexican lettuce cyclospora outbreak is as good a reason as any.
A CBSNews/YouGov poll showed that 40% of U.S. adults have cut their produce consumption thanks to the outbreak.
The Hill reports,
Forty-seven percent of survey participants say they do not trust the FDA to deal with the cyclospora outbreak, while 40 percent say they have some faith in the agency.
Thirteen percent of people said they have ‘a lot' of trust in the FDA's ability to get the outbreak under control.
Basically 40% of Americans said, move over fresh fruits and veggies and bring on the ultra-processed food that will hospitalize you slowly over time instead of right away.
As if we needed an excuse to ditch the salad!
