‘We’re Out Of Time’: Learjet Kills 9 People Near Mobile Home Park In Fiery Crash, Publication Releases Harrowing Audio

A Learjet 60 crashed Sunday afternoon in a residential neighborhood in South Florida, killing nine passengers, according to officials.

The crash occurred around 12:50 p.m. local time Sunday, according to an official incident statement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The aircraft had departed from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas at the time of the crash. The Learjet crashed into a residential neighborhood in Cresthaven, according to the same incident statement.

A crewmember aboard the Learjet described her final moments while speaking with an air traffic controller (ATC), according to audio cited by the New York Post.

"We're gonna crash into the ground 722 Bravo Delta," she can be heard saying before a scream is heard. "Holy f—k, we're out of time."

"We're descending 8,000 — mayday, mayday — we're descending 10,000 feet per minute. We are in an overspeed condition, descending 20,000 feet per minute," a crewmember radioed moments earlier.

Ahead of the crash, "light, clear ice" had been reported but was described as "manageable." (RELATED: Two Helicopters Crash Near Airport, Killing 3)

Local resident Anthony Blackmon reacted to the crash while speaking with NBC Miami. "Debris was everywhere. Debris hit my house. Everything was on fire. The road was on fire."

"I've always seen it on the news, never thought it would happen so close to somebody like how it happened today," he said.

Residents of a mobile home park near the crash site were evacuated, according to Joel Flores, commissioner for Palm Beach County's 3rd District, according to NBC News. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office along with the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.

The New York Post identified the Learjet's co-pilot as 20-year-old Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras. She earned her pilot license in high school and had 1,300 hours of flying experience, her family confirmed to the outlet. Filgueiras is the woman who could be heard communicating with air traffic control in audio ahead of the crash.
